Lost Generations in Montparnasse: A Self-Guided Audio Tour

3. Lost Generations in Montparnasse: A Self-Guided Audio Tour

Amid the bustle of modern Paris, I invite you to step back into the past. During the 1920s, Montparnasse was home to Ernest Hemingway and his long-suffering wife Hadley, F. Scott Fitzgerald and his troubled wife Zelda, writer Gertrude Stein and her companion Alice B. Toklas, the tormented painter Amedeo Modigliani and his muse Jeanne Hebuterne, singer and actress Kiki de Montparnasse, photographers Man Ray and Berenice Abbott, and bookseller Sylvia Beach of Shakespeare and Company. Their lives criss-crossed in the cafés and bars they frequented, many of which survive to this day. So when you need a break, you are never far from a watering hole where you can sketch or scribble your own masterpiece. The tour is ready whenever you are and the audio plays automatically at exactly the right time and place using your smartphone's GPS and the VoiceMap mobile app, which also works offline.

it was a wonderful experience. it worth the price and then some. Girl knows her Montparnasse history, from this Arizonan she knows her Barrio, and the stories she can tell. worth it! I tried 2 of her suggestions for dinner, yes it was 2 don't judge, excellent sugestions.

Rim Tamara, our guide, was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was lovely having a guide who had lived in the area for the last 15 years. We were only a small group, so the tour felt like an afternoon stroll with friends. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough.

Our guide was friendly with many fun stories about Montparnasse. It was so nice to learn about the history of this wonderful area. She also gave us tips for places to see in the area we are staying in,

The tour was an interesting look back into the roaring 20s, when Montparnesse was the centre of art, the performing arts, and cafe society.

Lovely insite in the history of the American quarter...
