From Barcelona: Tarragona & Sitges Full Day Tour with Pickup

Live for a day on the warm shores of Catalonia. Travel to the historic town of Tarragona – the ancient Roman Tarraco – and enjoy the beautiful Sitges, filled with magical corners of modernist charm. You will finish the day at the best urban beach in Europe, San Sebastian. You will be picked up from your hotel in private transport to move comfortably to these 2 locations, situated south of Barcelona. With your specialized guide, visit these 2 coastal towns while hearing the most interesting stories and facts. Tarragona is located 100 kilometers south of Barcelona, on the Costa Dorada, where you'll find sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Its streets house one of the most important and best preserved Roman archaeological sites in Spain, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Tarraco was the capital of "Hispania Citerior," 1 of the 3 provinces that formed the Iberian Peninsula approximately 2,000 years ago. Head from Barcelona to reach this historic scenery, first making a stop in one of the entrances of the old "Tarraco." Here, admire the impressive "Devil’s Bridge." This aqueduct – 217 meters long and 26 meters high – is a spectacular example of advanced Roman engineering. Begin a walking tour in Tarragona, where you will discover the many preserved remains of this civilization, while your guide provides the most exciting stories. Explore the ancient walls surrounding the city and get immersed in one of the best-preserved circuses in Europe, hidden under structures from the 19th century. See traces of the ancient Roman Forum that survived to the present day alongside medieval and modern Tarragona. Finally, marvel at the ruins of the amphitheater, located on the shore of the Mediterranean since the second century, where bloody battles between gladiators were exhibited. Next, travel to another town whose charm is more colorful and idyllic, thanks to the influence of Modernism. Sitges is located on the Costa del Garraf, 38 kilometers from Barcelona. Its privileged location, where the sea and the mountains meet, became an ideal place to practice health tourism, later becoming a curious location where artists of all kinds settled. Today, Sitges has mixed its traditional fishermen’s houses with a bohemian and lively atmosphere, full of boutiques, restaurants with musicians, and artists in the streets. On a walking tour through the town, your guide will take you through the streets and the most hidden corners of its labyrinthine center. See examples of architectural modernism at Casa Bacardi or Casa del Rellotge, as you uncover the curious stories of the "Americanos" who became rich from the new continent. The fame of Sitges – the "Saint Tropez of Spain" – is due to its idyllic walk by the sea. See the church of San Bartolomé and Santa Tecla, the grand staircase, Maricel Palace, and the charming "Quiet Corner," where musicians enliven the atmosphere. These spots all lead you to the beach of San Sebastian. End the day enjoying the idyllic location, considered by the New York Times to be the best urban beach in Europe. Relax on one of its terraces or, if the weather permits, take a dip in its crystal waters.

Tarragona & Sitges Small Group Full-Day Tour

Tarragona & Sitges Small Group Full-Day Tour

Take a full-day excursion to Tarragona and Sitges and combine a tour of the Roman city with an afternoon lazing on the beach. The 11-hour trip departs from Barcelona and heads south to Tarragona’s breathtaking 2,000-year-old Roman Aqueduct, known locally as El Pont del Diable (The Devil’s Bridge). The perfectly preserved piece of ancient Roman history is hardly ever visited by tourists, but leaves an indelible impression on all who see it. From the Aqueduct, travel into Tarragona city center and explore the ancient Roman capital of the Iberian Peninsula, entering the Old Town through a narrow gateway in the Roman walls. Starting at the Archaeological Walkway, admire the surviving stone walls, wander through the historic old quarter, pass the medieval hospital, and stop at the cathedral to enjoy the Sunday morning antique market for a great chance to pick up some unique gifts. Explore the beautiful cathedral before continuing to the Roman Forum and nearby Roman Circus. Walk along underground passageways that once held the Circus stands, and arrive at Plaça de la Font, one of the most popular squares within the Old Town. Enjoy breathtaking sea views over the Roman Amphitheatre, and imagine gladiators battling each other to the death! It’s a poignant moment to stand on the dusty ground that once bore witness to countless scenes of sacrifice and passion. At approximately 12:30, depart Tarragona for Sitges. En route, you will stop briefly at Roc de Sant Gaieta, an intimate village built on the rocky shoreline. Stroll around its tiny white houses, and let your imagination take you away to Ibiza-style fishing villages, built with a touch of Roman-Greco flair. Arrive in Sitges at 14:00, in perfect time for lunch. This once quiet fishing village today boasts a long and sandy beach, groovy boutiques, and a handful of interesting sights. Fashionable since the 1890s, when it became an avant-garde, art-world hang-out, Sitges provides a maze of shady side streets, where you can enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere of its whitewashed houses. After a leisurely lunch, head off to one of the 17 beaches in town to spend a relaxing afternoon soaking up the sun. Reunite with your group at 18:00 for the return journey to Barcelona.

We had a great time going on this tour. Sara was an able and experienced skipper. There wasn’t enough wind to sail on our scheduled day but we still got beautiful views of Sitges and the surrounding areas with snacks and plenty of white wine. When we got back on land, Nico gave excellent context on the history of the city and its relationship to the Malvasia grape variety. Going into the cellar was a huge surprise—we’d passed that building countless times and had no idea there was a vineyard inside. The wines were delicious, we eagerly brought a few extra bottles home with us. Definitely recommended for anyone who wants a deeper view of the city and its history.

Vicente was our tour guide . He was amazing. He was very knowledgable about our tour. He took the time to message us ahead of time to make sure we were all ready to GO . We got lost in this big City ( meeting place was terrible ) because of construction we had to walk quite a ways. Vicente took the time to help us find are way . He was amazing Thank you xxx

My husband and I liked it a lot! It was our first experience using a tour company in Spain. Although it was our second time visiting Barcelona. On hand sight 20/20 I would have had skipped Sitges, I would have liked to spend more time in Tarragona doing some shopping as we didn’t have the chance to do it. Ramon is an awesome guide though very knowledgeable

We enjoyed every aspect of the day. Best of all it was not rushed and our guide made sure we had access to the bathrooms. Ruben was very friendly, knowledgeable and patient. Oh, yes, and an excellent driver. We felt very safe. Thank you!

Easy to follow directions-informative but concise.
