Top 8 places to see in Toledo
Known as the “City of Three Cultures” because Christians, Muslims and Jews lived peacefully there since the 8th century, Toledo, Spain is an incredible trip back in time. These are only the best of the city’s endless list of hidden gems.
Toledo Cathedral
As a monumental example of a High Gothic cathedral, some call the Toledo Cathedral the best of its kind in all of Spain.
Museum of Santa Cruz
What the art museum lacks in quantity, it makes up for in quality. The highlight of the museum is its El Greco collection, most notably the magnificent Retablo de la Asuncion.
Puente de San Martín
This epic medieval bridge spans across the Tagus river. Built in the late 14th century, it is still an architectural wonder with its five arches spanning at the longest 40 meters.
Castillo de San Servando
Be warned, this magnificent castle is closed to the public. Admire it from the outside or book a hotel room on the inside with Residencia Juvenil Castillo San Servando.
Alcazar of Toledo
You can’t miss this massive complex overlooking the city. Today it houses a never-ending military museum; understanding Spanish history is understanding Spanish conquest.
Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes
Describing this stunning Gothic monastery is impossible. The main cloister is the highlight with its high carved ceilings—seeing it may be the best 2.50€ you’ve ever spent.
River Tagus
Surrounding the city on three sides, the Tagus river provides a scenic walkway throughout the area. Pack a lunch or go fishing; centering your afternoon along this river is a must.
Puerta de Bisagra Nueva
The Puerta de Bisagra Nueva is the greatest of the city gates of Toledo and a fine example of Moorish influence. Entering the Old City doorway and exploring is a Toledo favorite.

What people are saying about Toledo
Not what we expected. This tour is not a substitute for walking around
This tour is not a substitute tot walking round the town. We did not know what to expect but the tour took us on a route outside and all round the old town with such wonderful vistas over town and the river with its buildings and bridges that could never be seen from inside the town. We were on the top deck where it was noisier and the commentary over the earphones were hard to comprehend. The opportunities to hop off at interesting places and hop back on again requires plenty of time and some homework beforehand to make the best of this facility. Best places are at bridges where one can wander into the town for refreshments. On a Saturday we found two buses doing the trip with a waiting time between of some 20 minutes.
So glad we took this tour instead of trying to do it ourselves.
Nice big tour bus with a restroom. Our male guide was fluent in English & Spanish. (Forgot his name!!) Charming & helpful. So nice to not have to worry about driving or parking. Saw plenty in both towns. Good to be able to quickly get in to the alcazar & the cathedral. Just wish the day had more hours so we could have spent even longing. Would have loved to wonder & shop more. Next time!!!
The tour of Toledo was informative and enjoyable.
The tour of the City of Toledo was comprehensive and informative. I enjoyed the discussions of the history of the city and the information on architecture of the three different religions that lived in the city. The final stop at the Church of St Tome to view El Greco's painting of The Burial of the Count of Orgaz was the highlight of the tour.
Excellent guide, excellent trip - do this one, you won't regret it!
Or guide was amazing! Spoke fluent English AND Spanish, and knew everything about everywhere we went... I can't recommend this tour enough! We were always provided with maps, and guidance on how to get wherever we wanted to. If I'm back in Madrid, I'll definitely do an IBE tour again!
Our guide Jennifer was excellent. Very friendly and Informative.
Recommend the trip. Toledo is beautiful with so much history. Only down side of the tour was not enough time to explore everything. We did the Toledo and Segovia tour in one day. Both places are wonderful and there is a lot to see. Highly recommend.
