As you roam the docklands, alleys and canals of the old east side, I’ll share the stories floating through its streets. You'll hear about the Dutch fleet, once the most powerful in the world, the eternal Anglo-Dutch wars, and how the old Navy Warehouse – now the National Maritime Museum – contributed to one of the worst defeats in the history of the British Navy. Together, we embark on a journey through the untold history of Amsterdam during World War II. We will stroll along beautiful old buildings that stand as silent witnesses to the stories I will narrate. I will recount known and unknown events from various (new) perspectives, drawing from recent research and personal accounts. The extermination of 70,000 Jewish ‘Amsterdammers’ has left voids in the city. These are scars that are barely visible to the naked eye anymore, but ones you will learn not to overlook after our journey.
