Take in the astonishing Swiss Alps on this partially guided tour. Relax on the bus trip from Zürich before an exciting, enchanting adventure through breathtaking Swiss scenery by cable-car, cogwheel train, and boat. Traveling through the Albispass, your tour will reach Lake Lucerne, the fourth-largest lake in Switzerland, lying on the border between four cantons. Enjoy fantastic views of the lake from its eastern shore, in the small resort-town of Weggis, nestled right at the foot of the Rigi.

The view can only get better as you ascend in the cable-car up the Rigi, known as "the Queen of the Mountains," to the perfectly situated baths and spa on its slopes. The sight of the 13 lakes that surround the mountain, and of the scenery of central Switzerland mountains, is sure to enchant you. Take souvenir photographs to treasure forever as you make your leisurely ascent into the mountains.

In the summer you can explore the Rigi on foot; in winter there is a chance to uncover its secrets by sleigh. Enjoy a unique journey on the oldest funicular in the world, built in 1871, to Vitznau. Travel onwards in the picturesque style, by boat over the waters, back to Lucerne. View the Rigi from a new angle while resting in the charming old town before taking the bus back to Zürich.

Meet at Sihlquai Bus Station, near Zürich HB (main train station). From the train station, follow platform 18 for 50 meters to the end and turn right. After 20 meters, you will find the bus station across from Starbucks. By public transportation, take tram 4 or 13 to the stop "Sihlquai/HB".

Know before you go

  • The tour is accompanied from Zürich to Weggis and from Lucerne to Zürich. For your individual ascent and descent at Mount Rigi (unaccompanied) and the boat ride back to Lucerne, you will receive tickets and a written itinerary
  • From March 6 to April 21, November 20 to 24, November 21 to December 1 2023 and March 4 to 28, 2024 the ascent and descent will be by cogwheel train due to cable car maintenance

We were left behind in Lucerne and had to take a train back to Zurich. Otherwise the trip was very good and worth taking. The pick up point was poorly described in the pamphlet. We arrived in plenty of time but could not locate the bus pick up area. Since it was at the train station we were able to take $103 train back to Zurich after we realized we'd been left behind. We loved the cog train up Rigi and the views from top of Mountain, and the boat ride, and 2 hours walking around Lucerne. It would have been a perfect day had we found the bus for the return trip. If you take this excursion we'd recommend you get specific instructions from the driver about the pick up location. Or you might be taking train back to Zurich too! We left our umbrellas on the bus and the driver turned them into the office. We were able to retrieve them the next day. Grateful!

excellent trip, we had perfect weather. It was a beautiful calm environment just perfect to enjoy the beauty of Rigi. A truly majical end by boat across the lake to Lucerne. a fantastic guide who took care to ensure we were comfortable with our journey and kept in touch with us while we were on our own, brilliant!

The best thing about this tour that is partially guided, and gives you flexibility to spend your time in Rigi and Luzern as per your preference. Transportation up and down the mountain are straight forward. Views on top of Rigi are unmatched, totally worth it!
