We enjoyed the tour and our guide Alex was thoughtful and interesting. The guide met us on time at Park 93. The bus was very comfortable and the driver was very good. We started the tour by going to the cathedral in Zipaquirá. The guide brought us there first so we could see the cathedral while it was open. Then we went to the salt mine where we started a self guided tour. Our guide explained to us about the things to do in the mine which included seeing the stations of the Cross, the cathedral, a movie about the history of the salt mine, a light show, an emerald mine simulation and a Virtual reality show, all of which were included. It was a lot of fun and had plenty of time to do it all. The guide met us at the end of the tour, and asked who was interested in lunch. He took us to a very good restaurant where we got a drink and a very generous portion of choices of meals for 35k each. We then toured the city of Zipaquirá with our guide and he gave us some free time to wander.
A very interesting trip, but you should be aware that once you get to the end of the one hour in-Catherdral walk where you visit all of the side chapels, that you must turn around and go all the way back to where you began. So save some energy! Take some water! Also, if you decide to have lunch in town, make sure that your guide takes you to a restaurant where there are menus in English – – if that is your language – – because otherwise you may be met with a strange looking fish on your plate.
Expect the unexpected, its a great experience. Try to get a tour guide inside the mine. Probably 2.5 hour isn’t enough time to admire the whole beauty of the Salt Mine, so I recommend spend more that 3 hours Also I highly recommend having lunch at one of Zipaquira best Asados de Carne restaurant, La Tejedora And you can`t missed the visit to Museo Del Bachillerato on downtown Zipaquira, where the famous writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez spend part of his life attending to High School.
Very nice tour and tour guides. Was perfect for a female traveling solo. My only complaint was I opted for the pickup at my hotel option and didn’t get confirmation of my pick up time until 11:45pm the night before. Once picked up though everything was great and very prompt and timely... don’t be late back to the van, we left 4 people behind. We were given plenty of time and the pickup time was repeated multiple times.
