Things to do in Żelazowa Wola

Enjoy a fascinating journey to the roots of one of the world’s greatest composers and arguably the most famous Pole in history, Frédéric Chopin. On this guided tour, you’ll travel in a luxury Mercedes van to Chopin’s birthplace, Żelazowa Wola, located 1 hour outside of Warsaw. Here you’ll visit the renovated manor house where Chopin was born in 1810, which now functions as a musical museum. This tour is an extension to the Chopin Tour and features a visit to the wonderful Baroque palace of the Prince Radziwill family in Nieborow and the magic garden of Arcadia, said to be the most beautiful of its kind in Poland. Drive through the picturesque Mazovian countryside and walk through the quiet, peaceful romantic garden for a relaxing experience. From May 15 till September every Sunday, the tour will include a piano concert in Zelazowa Wola, the birthplace of Frederic Chopin. Discover the manor house, museum and park. Visit Niepokolanów, the monastery devoted to St. Maksymilian Kolbe who sacrificed his own life to rescue another prisoner's life in Auschwitz.

The place of birth of Frederic Chopin. Put yourself in the little Frederic’s shoes at his birthplace, Zelazowa Wola, while strolling down the hallways of his old home. See the valuable memorabilia of the Chopin’s family, including the original piano. If you are lucky, you will hear a live piano concert on Sunday afternoon (from May to September). See the Brochow Fortified church, reconstructed in 1665 and built of red brick - one of the most valuable examples of  defensive architecture in Poland. Here Frederic’s parents – Nicholas Chopin and Tekla Justyna Krzyżanowska - were married and Frederic was baptized. Move on to the Chopin Museum; jump back in time and imagine the life of the famous Polish composer. This modern museum includes original manuscripts and documents written by the composer, photographs and sculptures of him, and also letters. It is the world’s largest collection of Chopin memorabilia. His music will lead you through the Royal Route where you can hear his heart beating from the Basilica of the Holy Cross. The Palace of Radzwill (now called the Presidential Palace) is the place where he played his first concert. Afterwards, have a coffee break in one of the oldest restaurants in the city which was one of the composer’s favorite places. To get to know Chopin’s music in more detailed way, visit the Chopin Salon where every day you can hear talented musicians playing concerts of the Chopin's masterpieces. The church was built of red brick and is one of the most valuable examples of  ‘defensive’ architecture in Poland. Lowicz - This small town is known for its triangular market square, the only one in Poland and one of three in Europe. Just next to the market square lies a cathedral from the 17th century and Lowicz Museum, which displays a rich collection of wooden sculptures, colorful costumes and paper cuts. In Lowicz, traditions are still alive. With a little luck, you can even meet women dressed in traditional folk costumes! Maurzyce – etnographic park. Discover Polish folklore just outside Lowicz. Maurzyce Etnographic Park gives you an opportunity to see villages characteristic of the 19th century. Admire genuine buildings with stunning furnished interiors and interesting buildings: a school, stable and huts.
