Prison Island Finally, take a boat ride offshore to Prison Island also called 'changuu' in swahili language. It is the home to large land tortoises that were imported from Seychelles. Also, learn about the island’s historic use as a prison for rebellious slaves in the 1860s. The Aldabra Giant Tortoise sanctuary is a significant draw for tourists, boasting a 200-year-old resident as its oldest. These non-indigenous, majestic creatures weigh an average of 200 kg and can live over 100 years. You will take a boat ride offshore to Stone town. Experience an authentic safari bush lunch in the middle of the National Park! At 13.00 a warm lunch will be served at set tables in the bush. After lunch, you will continue with the game drive till 15:30, when you will be driven back to the airstrip for your flight back to Zanzibar. Your flight will depart at 16.00/16.15 from the airstrip of Selous Game Reserve/ Nyerere National Park back to Zanzibar, where you will arrive at 16.30/16.45 and will be picked up and brought back to your hotel.

After walking in Stone Town, take a 20-minute boat ride to Prison Island. The prison was built in 1893 and was originally intended to house violent prisoners from the mainland and sick people. You will also get the opportunity to visit the tortoise sanctuary, which contains a large colony of giant tortoise imported from the Seychelles in the late 19th century. Then, drive to the spice farm, where you will enjoy the rainforest setting with lots of tropical plants, trees, and spices.
