Zanzibar: Spice Farm Tour with Traditional Cooking Lesson

1. Zanzibar: Spice Farm Tour with Traditional Cooking Lesson

Visit an organic spice farm on this 3-hour guided tour to learn about one of Zanzibar’s most popular industries: spices. Discover how the islands produce cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, black pepper, and more. See why the Zanzibar Archipelago, together with Tanzania's Mafia Island, is sometimes called the "Spice Islands".   When you arrive, the spice farm guide will describe how the spices are grown and used as medication and flavor in dishes. See spices like vanilla, cardamom, nutmeg, and many more. You’ll be able to touch, smell, and taste the spices and herbs directly from plants—you’ve never smelled spices as fresh as these before. Along with these fragrant plants, there will also be some fresh tropical fruits to see and taste.     Later, take the opportunity to join a cassava leaf harvest, make coconut milk, and practice some cooking. Then, a coconut tree climber will pick some fresh young coconut fruits for you to try. End the trip with lunch at the spice farm and the opportunity to purchase spices from the shop.

What people are saying about Zanzibar City

A fun morning out with Khamis (Thursday) and Juma (Friday) it was fun knowing that. Highly recommended outing... But not with just any old guide. These guys are hilarious and Khamis knows all his fruits in Afrikaans! He even knows what "fokken duur" means (you're welcome for the free information my friend ). You'll also notice that I'm in most of the pictures because Juma is a great photographer. Handed him my phone and had the opportunity to really enjoy myself instead of taking pictures! I had a 4year old randomly latch on to me... Just confirmation that I am in the right line of work!! I was allowed to participate and try out whatever I wanted... Also didn't follow instructions and cut myself on the coconut cutter. Pavarotti Batman grabbed us some coconut from a tree top while performing (wow, the voice ) All I can say is, fresh is better. Literally every smell and flavour I experienced was ou

The tour of the spice farm is great and definitely worth doing. Food was lovelly too. The cooking part is nothing really. I was hoping we would learn something good. But we just watched someone else cook some small thing without any real idea of what was going on.

Great experience and worth the price! Punctual, friendly pick-up service, private tour for two, very funny guide with a lot of knowledge and excellent English. Great lunch, all in all really recommendable, we would do it again in a heartbeat!

The organization was great, both our driver and guide are very friendly. We had a great experience with the local farmer and get insights to the local kitchen as well as the agricultural environments. Recommend!

Again an awesome trip. The cooking ‍ class was very good and the lunch afterwards was great. The guide was very well educated and gave as great info and explanations.
