We were picked up at our hotel by Anna, our friendly guide and Zalipie was about 1hr 45mins drive. Just 3 of us on the tour. We began at the villages museum where there are 3 little cottages to look around, all beautifully painted. We watched a video in the barn, but unfortunately for us, it was in Polish! We then drove to the village church, passing several painted houses along the way. The interior of the church was adorned with painted flowers. Then we went to the 2nd museum/ village hall, great photos of women with their painted houses, and more artwork to see in the grounds. (It would have been an added highlight if we could have met and talked to one of the owners of a current painted house.) The guide asked if we wanted to stop at a restaurant for lunch on the way back to krakow which we did (not included in the price of the trip). If you like arty things and want to see some Polish countryside it's a good, laidback choice.

Sensational guide, Mr. Maciej, who gave 1000% of himself. Competent, committed, reliable, kind, alert and very sympathetic. If the tours are to leave you in your mind the real interest in the region you are visiting, I highly recommend it. It was not just a transport order (as it sometimes happens) from A to Z. Care at every kilometer. Already while passing through Krakow, we received such a portion of knowledge (and additional stops at the attractions we passed "because if we are here, I'll show you something") that it was known that it would be a great day. History, architecture, nature, curiosities, anecdotes, but also: where they sell good ice cream, "look at the stork", "walks" at a local hostess who welcomes tourists almost like a family and with handfuls of ideas for the next vacation.

Matthew was a great tour guide! Super kind and very informative on the area. He even brought us to an extra historic building on the drive there that was built in the 1400s and he just knew the pastor! You can tell he is knowledgeable and cares about the communities within this area. We booked a private tour and it felt as if we were spending the day with a cousin rather than a stranger! Zalipie is a beautiful village filled with loving energy, animals, and many strong female artists! I highly recommend anyone visiting Krakow to book a tour to Zalipie and see the beautiful countryside (even the drive is beautiful!)!!

Our guide was Maciek from Poland Active (https://www.poland-active.com/). We had a fantastic day, visiting different houses, the local museum and the beautiful church while admiring the gorgeous paintings. Maciek knew very well the area and some of the villagers, even allowing us to visit the house of a local lady quite famous for her painting skills.

This was a really easy day and we enjoyed leaving the city for a bit. Our driving guide was very nice - very informative, and was willing and able to chat, which is always nice. These little houses are simply gorgeous and worth seeing.
