Full description
Begin your cycling tour with a safety briefing and get kitted out with helmets and a bike. Listen as the breaks and gears are explained, the saddles adjusted to your size, and a test round made. Then, embark on a wonderful and especially designed cycling route over the fertile plain of the island, running over smooth and narrow paved roads. The only congestion you will find might be the odd sheep or goat that may cross your path. Peddle your way as you zigzag through olive groves and endless vineyards. Gain an appreciation for why Zakynthos is nicknamed ‘the Flower of the East’, as you are amazed by the abundance of bright colorful wildflowers in the fields. Along the way, take many breaks for a chance to drink water, catch your breath, or take pictures. Throughout the tour, your local guide will share stories about the island's rich history.  Finally, arrive in the traditional village of Macherado which is the turning point for the route. After a short climb to reach the village, enjoy a well-deserved break in the village square. Stop at the cafe which serves the best frappé (chilled Greek coffee) on the island. On your return journey back to town, make several interesting stops along the route. Visit an old church and an olive press. Your guide is open for improvisation, so if something interesting crosses your path along the way home, the time of return will just be delayed.
