What to Expect
Leaving York, make your way to the charming town of Pickering, the southern terminus of the North York Moors Railway, known as the ‘Gateway to the Moors’. There will be a brief chance to explore the station and see this picturesque market town. Then head off the ‘Beaten Track’ into the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, there will be plenty of chances throughout your day to capture memorable photos.

Arrive in Goathland, a scenic moorland village, after traveling over your first taste of the moorland. The village is the main setting, called Aidensfield, for the 60’s TV Series Heartbeat. You will also have opportunity to see Goathland Station, which was turned into ‘Hogsmeade’ for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The shop on the platform was transformed into the “Prefect’s Room” and the Ladies toilets became the “Wizard’s Room”.

Drive through more classic Yorkshire Countryside as you make our way through Egton and Egton Bridge, and then down the famous 33% Gradient on Limber Hill. The journey takes you onto Glaisdale, this peaceful village is home to Beggers Bridge, a 17th century bridge with a romantic story behind it. Arrive in Lealholm for lunch, it has a number of delightful tea rooms and lunch options. The River Esk runs through the center of the village, with its picturesque stepping stones, providing hours of fun for generations of children.

Get onto the heart of the Moors in the afternoon. On leaving Lealholm, head to the Moorlands, to enjoy uninterrupted panoramic views for miles, whilst you travel through the grouse moors. After traveling through Rosedale Abbey, stop to view the historic furnaces.

Arrive into Hutton-le-hole, a picture perfect village situated within Ryedale. You may even get a photo opportunity of the sheep grazing in the village. As you make your way out of the National Park stop at the market town of Helmsley, you will have time to explore bustling market square, the dramatic castle ruins, the charming tea rooms or the inviting inns. If you were asked to imagine the perfect English market town, then it'd probably look a lot like Helmsley!

Leaving Helmsley start making your way back towards York whilst enjoying the views over the Vale of York. Sit back and enjoy more scenic Yorkshire countryside as your memorable tour draws to a close.
