From Yogyakarta: Dieng Plateau Golden Sunrise Trip

7. From Yogyakarta: Dieng Plateau Golden Sunrise Trip

Following pick-up from your hotel in Yogyakarta at midnight, the journey to Dieng Plateau will take about 3 hours by car. The hike to the Dieng Plateau sunrise viewpoint at the top of Sikunir Hill takes 20-30 minutes from the foot of the path that leads you to the top. On a clear day, you can see up to 8 volcanoes from the top of this hill.  From the top of Sikunir Hill, you will head to Telaga Warna Lake via Batu Pandang Hill after the Dieng Plateau sunrise. Telaga Warna Lake, or ‘Colourful Lake’, contains water that can change in fluctuating colors. At times it can be green, purple, yellow or even taking the colors of the rainbow! This phenomenon occurs when the sun hits the water due to its high sulfur content. From Telaga Warna Lake, you will next visit Sikidang Crater, which is an open sulfur crater with angry bubbling mud and bellowing steam. It’s set among a bumpy and dusty landscape that will make you feel like you arrived on another planet. This activity was excellent!! Ivan was my driver, and he is such a nice person who was very knowledgeable about the region and was just great to talk with. He was able to help set me up with tour guides at Borobudur and Prambanan as well as a driver who spoke English for the Jeep excursion. After we finished at Prambanan, he offered to take me to Kota Gede, the area where silver is made, since it was on the way back to my hotel. He was very accommodating and I would highly recommend anyone request him if you are doing this activity. The only issue I had was that although I was told I would receive an email or call the day before the activity, I received neither. Thankfully Ivan was there on time, but I would have appreciated receiving some type of confirmation from the company as had been stated on the initial booking email I received.

I had an excellent tour! Everything was very well organized by the tour company and the very reliable and knowledgeable driver and guide. All the sites we visited were fabulous, starting from the Buddhist and Hindu temples around Yogjakarta to the impressive volcanoes in East Java. Yogjakarta has a lot to offer and I feel I could have spent a day or two more there. Consider arriving a few days before starting the tour to explore the city. The way from Yogjakarta to the volcanoes is quite long, but it gives you a chance to sit back in the car, observe local life and learn about the country and its culture from the local guide.

It was a great adventure!!! What we saw was amazing, but even more impressive was the logistics behind our travel. Our trip was flawless. Our local guide, Widi, was on time and extremely friendly. He was wonderfully knowledgeable, and he made our trip special. We highly recommend this tour to everyone!!!

Great Guide ! Wedi was a true professional ! Very articulate and clear in his explanations of history Of the area, he was helpful in all ways ! Consequently The tour was made complete , the sunrise was incredible , the timing was perfect , there was only 18 other people so it was majestic !

The place is beautiful, it is very worth it ... in the middle of the mountain to observe the rural life and the small temple of Selogriyo ... our guide a boy's charm that even helped us with other activities
