Full description
The tour begins with pickup from your Yangon hotel in the morning and heads north to the city of Bago. On the way, stop by the Taukkyan War Cemetery, which houses over 6000 graves and memorial pillars dedicated to the Allied Soldiers who gave their lives during the Second World War. Spend some time exploring the site as you learn about the soldiers who fought in the war and pay your respects. Continue onto Bago next and arrive at the Shwemawdaw Pagoda, also known as the Golden God Temple. Standing at 114 meters tall it is even taller than the Swedagon Pagoda in Yangon and is the tallest pagoda in the country. Admire the stunning architecture of this golden masterpiece and listen to your guide share insight into the culture and traditions that surround the pagoda. Afterwards, head to the 55-meter-long reclining Shwethalyaung Buddha, which is believed to have been built in 994. Learn about how the Buddha was lost during the 1700s, but rediscovered in the 1880s during British Colonial rule. Visit the Kyaikpon Pagoda next and finally make a trip to the stunning Kanbawzathadi Palace, built by King Bayintnaung in the 16th century.
