This tour is SO worth it if you want to see the Lake District in a short amount of time. And we got to stop at a lot of breathtaking vistas/ get out and explore Grasmere for a whole hour! 10/10 would recommend.

Full description

Start off by travelling over the famous Kirkstone Pass which is the highest mountain road in the Lakes, before making your way down to take in the beautiful Ullswater. You’ll have the chance to stretch your legs at Castlerigg Stone Circle, taking in the panoramic views of the fells. The tour returns travelling south along the vast Thirlmere whilst learning all about its interesting story. There is then time to wander around the historic village of Grasmere before travelling back to Windermere. This half-day tour is perfect for those who are short on time but want to see as much of this beautiful area as possible.

Know before you go

  • Westmorland and Furness Council are working towards upgrading and improving the safety of the A592 (Kirkstone Pass) which connects Windermere to Brotherswater and Ullswater. Unfortunately this does mean the road is closed for specific periods throughout the year, including 5th June 2023 – 3rd July 2023, 2nd October – 16th October and 1st March 2024 – 22nd March 2024. We are sorry for the inconvenience, please note our tours will still be running as usual but with a temporarily diverted route during this period.
  • Children must be 5 years or older
  • Confirmation will be received at the time of booking
  • There are toilet stops on route
  • Minimal walking is involved
  • The vehicles are not currently wheelchair accessible
  • Luggage storage is available at the Windermere Information departure location
  • Seats cannot be reserved
  • Each passenger must have their own seat

Our guide was knowledgeable, sharing lots of interesting facts as we drove around. She was super lovely, looked after us all and made it good fun. As someone who has never visited the lakes before and short on time this visit, the tour was a fantastic introduction to the area, definitely value for money.
