  • Admire impressive drop-off coral formations
  • Visit historic Fort Beekenburg
Full description
Benefit from pickup at your hotel or the cruise ship terminal, and then head to an impressive snorkeling site with beautiful coral formations. Lie still in the calm waters or drift in the warm waves of the Caribbean Sea. Continue to the legendary Tugboat dive site to see the mostly intact remains of the 30-foot wreck of a tugboat siting upright in 17 feet of water. After three decades beneath the waves, the skeletal hull is now encrusted with spectacular corals, where many tropical fish come to swim. Dry off and rehydrate with water and lemonade before going to Fort Beekenburg, built to protect Caracasbaai from pirates and enemy attack. Get a great view of Barbara Beach across the expansive harbor before making your way back to Willemstad.

The guide picked us up at the cruise pier. English speaking guide, very friendly. Practically private tour, just one more couple. She took us to see various sights and neighborhoods in the city. We made two diving spots, both starting at the beach. The first in a coral formation and the second in a sunken ship. Equipment provided by the guide.

The guide was fantastic, friendly, entertaining and did know everything about snorkeling but also about Antillian culture. I loved the trip!

The snorkeling itself was great - both spots are absolutely worthwhile. However, we spent more time in the car than in the water, as we were guests from two other hotels, both of which are completely secluded. For the route from Willemstad to the spot, it took us almost 90 minutes instead of 30 minutes - the same game on the way back. The use of another vehicle would be important here - or hotels as remote as this are not approached.
