1. Bangkok: Maeklong Railway & Amphawa Floating Market Day Trip

The markets of Thailand are some of the country’s most quintessential experiences; they give you a lively peek inside the more traditional culture of a country that often lives by water (or in this case, by the railroad tracks as well). On this full-day guided tour, you'll be taken to the most iconic markets on the outskirts of Bangkok, ending with a relaxing firefly boat tour to wind down from the day’s excitement. Maeklong Train Market is a fresh market situated right by a well-worn railroad. Watch the vendors expertly close and open their awnings to make room as the trains pass by. Wat Bang Kung is a striking Buddhist temple engulfed by the roots of a massive Banyan Tree. Learn about its bloody battle history and see the Golden Buddha inside. Located on the Amphawa canal, the Amphawa Floating Market is one of Thailand's more popular floating markets. Visit this riverside market and see vendors selling delicious treats like sweets and seafood, or browse some of the shophouses and restaurants. After sunset, when the lights have dimmed, you'll wind down with a relaxing river cruise. Your boat will take you a little further out where it is dark enough to see the fireflies, before heading back to your accommodations at 9:00 PM, ending a day of simple pleasures and tastes with the comforting sight of these lightning bugs.

Colors of Damnoen Saduak starts with a pickup from your Bangkok-hotel around 07:00AM* by airconditioned minivan/car to bring you to Ratchaburi province. Markets of Thailand are some of the country’s most quintessential experience. They give a lively peek inside the more traditional culture of a country that often lives by water. That’s why our first stop will be at the famous Maeklong railroad market in Samut Songkhram. The market stalls are set up directly on the train tracks, and vendors sell a variety of fresh produce, seafood, meats, clothing, and other goods. When a train approaches, the vendors quickly retract their awnings and move their merchandise to make way for the passing train. Once the train has passed, they promptly resume their positions, and the market returns to its bustling state. At Damnoen Saduak we start with a long-tail boat ride through a maze of canals cutting through local villages and plantations; Visit a coconut plantation where they make palm & coconut sugar in a traditional Thai way. After we’ve visited Damnoen Saduak floating Market, our bicycles are waiting for us to continue this adventure. We ride along quiet country back roads, plantation trails and unpaved flat roads. On the way we will enjoy a delicious Thai lunch at a Maeklong riverside restaurant. Depending on the season, we’ll see grapes, lychee, pomelo, and coconuts growing in trees and plants, ready to be harvested. Besides the overwhelming nature along the Mae Klong River delta there are a few beautiful temples we would like to show you and tell you more about. “Wat Bang Kung” dates out of the Ayutthaya period, is more than 500 years old, and is famous for the small chapel that is completely enclosed within the roots of a banyan tree, called Bot Prok Po. it’s like the tree itself is the pillar of the temple and without it will fall. “Wat Bang Kae Noi”, built in 1868, inside is covered with wood carving depicting the life of Buddha. 3 life sized wax statues of famous Thai monks completes this remarkable temple. This will be the last stop before heading back to Bangkok by minivan.

A highly recommended experience! It’s one thing to visit these places by yourself, but with the guide it’s another world. Our guide Angie took an excellent care of us, explained what the things on the stalls are, told us historical facts and just really made it a fun journey. I liked the train market the most, it’s amazing how many things happen at once in such a small place. The temple in the tree roots was also super cool, Angie got us sets for making a prayer/wish, and we got to gold-plate Buddha statue. A word of advice, save one of those golden papers until you are inside the temple, so you can put it on the main sculpture.

If you are thinking of booking this trip just book it! brilliant way to see so much in one day outside of the business of the city! special mention to our tour guide Theravadh(Wat) and his driver, both were excellent at their jobs and Wat is such a friendly, and funny man who made the experience so much more enjoyable! the whole tour is amazing, beautiful spots to visit and is a must on a Bangkok trip if you want to see something different! would definitely recommend.

Really good experience for the whole day. Guide Theravadh Wattanacherdchupong is the best. You have free time in every location, so you can do what you want. Really good tour.
