Waqrapukara Archaeological Complex

Waqrapukara is an attraction that translates as Fortress in the form of horn, was a residence of the Inca nobility where you can still see temples and Inca enclosures. The attraction is located at 4300 meters above sea level. -The excursion starts with pick up from the hotel (near or inside the historical center) between 4:00 - 5:00 a.m. - We will travel to Sangará, place of our first stop for breakfast. -Then we will continue until we reach a parking place where the mobility will stay and start the 2 hour walk to the archaeological center of Waqrapukara. -Upon arrival you will have a brief guide and time to visit part of the area. -We will return to the car and return to Sangará where we will make the last stop for lunch. -Return to the city of Cusco, you will be dropped off near the Plaza de Armas. -Arrival time 6:00 p.m. approximately.

This is one of the tours in Cusco that will take you to unforgettable places. We will start at 4:30 in the morning, when our transportation will pick you up at your hotel. Then, we will head to the district of Acomayo (Pitumarca), where you will enjoy a delicious Andean breakfast. Afterwards, we will continue our tour bordering the majestic Pomacanchi Lagoon, surrounded by meadows and cultivated fields. This impressive lagoon is one of the largest in the region. We will then head to the starting point of the hike, which lasts approximately 3 hours. During the hike, you will be able to observe the local flora and fauna, as well as enjoy panoramic views of the mountains and rock formations. Finally, we will arrive at the Waqra Pukara fortress around noon. After a short rest, we will start the tour of the archaeological center of Waqra Pukara with our tour guide, who will provide you with all the detailed information. You will have free time to explore the site and take pictures. At the end of the visit to the fortress, we will return to the village of Pitumarca to enjoy lunch. Afterwards, we will board our transportation to return to Cusco. Our tour ends in the center of Cusco at approximately 5:00 pm.

Pick up: 4:30 hrs a.m. You will be picked up at your hotel, (located in the historic center of the city) We will go to the town of Sangarara where it will be our first stop to have a delicious breakfast. Afterwards we will continue the trip along a zigzag road until we reach the parking lot, where the walk will begin. Later we will begin the walk for 2 hours to reach the archaeological complex of Waqrapukara. On this tour we will visit some important places where you will have enough time to fully enjoy the place and take some photographs. Finally we will return to the restaurant in Sangarara to enjoy a complete buffet lunch. We will return to the city of Cusco by the same route, ending our tour near the Main square (aproxímate time of arrival 18:00 hrs).

Day 1: Cusco - Cusipata - Santa Lucia - Waqrapukara First, at 04:00 a.m. we will go to your hotel. After approximately 2 hours we will arrive at Quiquijana, where we will have breakfast. Then, we will arrive to the community of Santa Lucia and from there we start the hike. After 1h. 30 min. of walking we will arrive to the archaeological center of Wagrapukara, and we will taste our Box Lunch. Then our guide will explain everything about this beautiful place. Also, free time to take the best pictures. We will return walking along the same path. After a short rest, we will continue with our return to the city of Cusco. Finally, we will leave you near the main square of Cusco, end of the service. Hike to Waqrapukara for 1 day: Waqrapukara is a fortress known for the peculiar form of horns that it presents, in this place lived the Inca nobility, until today you can observe the enclosures and Inca temples, located at 4300 meters above sea level. The excursion starts with the pick up from your hotel (in or near the historical centre) between 4:00 - 5:00 a.m., where we will go to our first stop sangara, place where we will have breakfast. Then we will continue to a parking place where we will park the vehicle and start the hike to the archaeological centre of Waqrapukara for 2 hours. Upon arrival you will have time to visit part of the area with a brief guide. We will return to the car and return to Sangará where we will make our last stop for lunch. The return to Cusco city will be approximately at 6 pm. You will be dropped off near the Plaza de Armas.

Discover the Waqrapukara Inca site that sees hardly any tourists on this full-day trek and tour. Visit the Acomayo Province and stop at nearby lagoons before hiking to Waqrapukara. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, and round-trip transport from Cusco. Start your trip with an approximately 2.5-hour drive to Acomayo Province where you will get to see four lagoons of Acomayo. After enjoying the view, continue for 30 more minutes to Qenterococha Lagoon where you will have a nutritious breakfast to prepare for the rest of the day. With new energy from breakfast, start the hike to Waqrapukara. On the way, identify the flora and wildlife of the area with your guide. Upon reaching the site, explore the place with your guide. You will also have the time to explore the place by yourself after your guided tour.  Marvel at the site’s distinctive rock, which is covered in ruins, creating a dramatic scene. The towering stone is perfectly nestled in a river valley. Take a break and eat your boxed lunch at the viewpoint of the Apurimac River viewpoint. After the meal, start the hike back, taking a different route that is easier and has different views of the Apurimac Canyon and abysses. Arrive back to the trailhead, where a private van will be waiting to take you back to Cusco.

Our tour starts at 4:00 am approx, your guide will pick you up at the hotel and we will drive along the road to Acomayo, until we reach Sangarará where we will make a brief stop for a delicious and nutritious breakfast. We will continue our trip, where we will start our hike for approximately 2hrs. Approx. to our destination Waqrapukara. Arriving there we will enjoy an impressive view and learn more about this archaeological site and have time to enjoy and take pictures. Then we will return by the same route to Sangarará where we will have lunch. Finally we will return to the city of Cusco, arriving at 6:30 pm. approx.

BEFORE MAKING THE RESERVATION CHECK THE AVAILABILITY OF THE TOUR. First, we will start with the respective pick up from the hotel in Cusco at 05:00 hrs. Then we will head south of Cusco, to the village of Sangarara where we will have our first stop. Then we will continue along a zigzagging road to the parking lot, from where we will start the hike. Then we will have a walk of approximately 2 hours to reach the archaeological complex of Waqrapukara, upon arrival we will have enough time to take pictures and tour much of the place. Then we will return by the same route to the parking lot to return to the city of Cusco (approximate time of arrival at 18:00 hrs).
