Begin your journey to meet Rwanda's mountain gorillas bright and early with a hotel pickup from Kigali where you will be greeted by your guide who will take care of you throughout the day.  Head straight to the Volcanoes National Park in Musanze Province — habitat to endangered mountain gorillas — whereupon arrival your guide will take you on a hiking tour to look for the gentle creatures. Sit back and relax on your 2-hour drive to the park, and either grab a few more hours of shut-eye or admire the picturesque scenery. Once at the park, tuck into breakfast before heading to the park's headquarters at Kinigi for a briefing by the park warden. Then, start your trek through the bamboo covered slopes at 8:30 AM with your expert guide and keep an eye out for the endangered gorillas on your way. Depending on where the gorillas are located, your trek could last anywhere between 1-8 hours. Once with the gorillas, spend time getting close to them, feeding them, and meeting the entire gorilla family, including babies. The Volcanoes National Park is home to twelve gorilla families, all of which are fully habituated. The groups, or troops, consist of at least one silverback along with several females and youngsters. The most exciting day starts early in the morning. 4:30am is the pick up time hence transfer to Volcanoes national Park. Once arrived at the reception, we grab a free cup of coffee to warm up and take a short briefing on protocols and rules for visiting the gorillas. The hike can last anything from 30 minutes to hours, reaching an altitude of between 2,500m and 4,000m. Porters are available to carry backpacks and cameras, as well as to offer a helping hand along the route. Carry a light backpack with bottled water and your gear for the gorilla trekking. While tracking the gorilla, you might get the chance to spot a diversity of other species and once you have finally met your gorilla family, you have one hour to spend with gorillas. 04:30 Hours: The tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Kigali, followed by a transfer to Volcanoes National Park, Musanze province. 07:00 Hours: Once at the park headquarters of Kinigi we meet with the other hikers and our park ranger guide. The rangers brief the hikers about the park, and the 5 Virunga volcanoes shared on the Rwanda side, and also offer insight on what to expect during the hike. All the rangers who work for the park authorities are seasoned guides and boast a wealth of knowledge. Many of the rangers are natives who hail from the Kinigi area and have been working with the park from when they were young. 08:00 Hours: After the briefing, we transfer to Bisoke Volcano hiking start point/ Bisoke head trail – a 40-minute drive from the headquarters. The first 15 minutes are on a paved road while the rest is a bumpy ride on volcanic rocks. 09:00 Hours: Once at Bisoke head trail which stands at 2700 meters/ 8850 above sea level, we hire a porter and begin to climb. Your bag may seem light initially however, as you ascend the mountain it gets heavy. The porters will help in providing a push or pull through the challenging spots, such as muddy, steep & slippery. The first 10 or so minutes of our hike go through villages and farmlands along the edge of the park then we go past a stone wall into Volcanoes National Park. The stone wall fence of the park keeps buffalos and forest elephants inside the park and also controls intruders from trespassing into the park. Mountain Bisoke is home to some habituated Gorilla families and you stand a good chance of encountering these at the start of your ascent up the mountain. If by chance you encounter some gorillas, the guides allow you to watch them for a few minutes while on the hiking trail. Photography is prohibited as this excursion does not include permits for Gorilla trekking. You may also get to see the Golden Monkey troop on your trek up Mountain Bisoke. The mountain is also home to Forest elephants and buffaloes however chances of sighting them are minimal. The hike up Mt Busoke takes about 4 hours and another 2 hours descending down to the starting point but this depends on your speed and the frequency of stops. Near the summit is Crater Lake, which features drier vegetation than other parts of the park, with giant heather growing all over the slopes of the volcano. 13:00 Hours: Once at the summit, you get to enjoy fantastic views of the other five volcanoes and the beautiful Twin Lakes. The amount of time you spend on the summit depends on the weather and temperature. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the summit, as you take pictures. 14:00 Hours: With your guides and porters start descending to the starting point. 16:00 Hours: Meet up with your guide for drop off at either a hotel/or Kigali International Airport.

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park The tour will start and end in Kigali. Our driver will pick you from your Hotel or Lodge (after having breakfast or with packed breakfast) at 4:30 am to start on your 2.5 hours journey to Volcanoes National park. The journey to Volcanoes national park takes an average of 2-3 hours and on reaching the park offices, you will be briefed by park officers and then assigned to a gorilla group to track. You will then be led into the forest by a ranger guide to tracking the primates. Gorilla trek may take between 1 hour to 8 hours depending on the movements of the primates. However, upon locating the gorillas, you will then spend 1 hour with them. Enjoy the unique adventure and you can take pictures. After the 1 hour which seems to be like minutes, then we trek back out of the forest and then transfer back to Kigali. Meal plan: Lunch

Day 1: Iby’iwacu Cultural Experience & a Guided Nature Walk Around Volcanoes National Park Morning drive you to Volcanoes Nat Park. Start by enjoying a complimentary Kigali city tour before traveling to northern Rwanda. After a 2-hour drive from Kigali to Ruhengeri/Musanze, we will visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Experience in Kinigi. We’ll then be treated to a guided nature walk around Volcanoes National Park. Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking & Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda We will start the day with a golden monkey trekking adventure in Volcanoes Nat Park. This primate is native to the high-altitude forests of the park. Once we have seen their playful interactions, we will head out of the park and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. The transfer to Bwindi National Park will go through the Rwanda-Uganda border at Cyanika. Day 3: Gorilla Trekking Adventure at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Today is another day for trekking into the wilderness to spot the rare local animals. You will head to the Bwindi National Park gate immediately after breakfast to get a briefing about the gorilla trek. You will then embark on your tracking adventure, making your way through the rainforest until you find a family of mountain gorillas. The gorilla trek can take from 3 to 6 hours on average, depending on how far the gorillas are inside the forest. It could last longer, so be prepared just in case! Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth Nat Park via Ishasha Sector to Spot Tree-Climbing Lions We will start the journey in the morning from Bwindi Nat Park and drive to Queen Elizabeth Nat Park. We’ll arrive at Queen Elizabeth National Park in the late afternoon. Our first activity will be to drive through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, popularly known for the tree-climbing lions. While the sighting of the tree-climbing lions is not 100% guaranteed, a stopover at Ishasha is worth a visit! Day 5: Kasenyi Plains Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Boat Trip Early breakfast at the lodge. Afterward, we will proceed to the famed Kasenyi Plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park to spot various species of wild animals. Expect to encounter the big five. We will return to the lodge for lunch and a quick break before joining the Kazinga Channel boat cruise for an afternoon of wild game viewing. We’ll have the chance to spot crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, and a wide range of bird species on the channel waters. Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking Experience at Kalinzu Forest & Return to Kigali Early morning breakfast followed by a drive to the Kalinzu Forest to experience tracking the chimpanzees in their forest home. If you are lucky on the trek, you might encounter some of the other different species of monkeys in the forest. These include colobus monkeys, olive baboons, and red-tailed monkeys. Once we have finished our last trekking adventure, it is time to return to Kigali.

1 Day hiking (Bisoke volcano)

Bisoke, like all of the peaks in the Virunga Mountain Range, is a volcano created by rift action on the forming divergent boundary of the East African Rift which is slowly bisecting the African plate. The mountain reached a height of 3,711 meters (12,175 ft) after its last eruption in 1957. Bisoke has the largest crater lake of the range. Mt Bisoke stands at 3711m, it has the typical conic shape of a “perfect” volcano and in its crater lies a deep crater lake. The high elevation demands extra strength of climbers and the whole excursion can take between 5 hours and the whole day depending on the speed of the walk and the frequency of stops. The climb typically takes around 3 hours. During the climb, you will cross a series of different vegetation habitats starting with bamboo forests, then moving into Hagenia – Hypericum forest and finally moving through Senecio – Lobelia bush near the summit. The hike starts at 07:00am from the Park’s headquarters in Kinigi from where you will be driven to the starting point of the hiking. Porters can also be hired from the park headquarter. back

It was our first time in Africa. Everything ran so smoothly. The pick up was on time. The accommodations were excellent. A big shout out to our driver Godfrey who made the whole experience special. Highly recommended. We would definitely not hesitate to use them again.

Both activity and provider were great! It was amazing and once in a life time experience. We were lucky to find gorillas after 10 minutes of walking and they were very active. Both driver and guides were very kind and knowledgable. Strong recommendation!

The event itself is beyond words, the way the company handled the pick up, transport, guidance, formalities was outstanding.
