Vitosha

At 9:00 AM you will be picked up from your hotel/accommodation by your guide. After a short drive, you will reach Vitosha Mountain. Your destination is a meteorological tower, from which area you will have the chance to see the whole city from above. Your guide will give you a good overview of Sofia, its history, and geography. Your next stop will be one of the most interesting and significant locations in Sofia – a complex called “The Bells”. It is related to a Bulgarian initiative, which started in 1979, called “The Flag of Peace”, gathering children from 135 countries, from both sides of “The Iron Curtain”. Each group had to put a unique bell from its country in this complex. After this experience, we will drive back to Sofia city center where you will start your walking tour. The first stop is the National Archaeological Museum with its astonishing cultural treasures. On the way, you will see the oldest building in Sofia – the Roman early Christian church St. George, dated in the 4th century. After the museum, you can have lunch in a restaurant situated in the same building, which was a Medieval mosque, and enjoy the archaeological remains next to your table. Your next destination is the market area of Sofia, famous for the name “Ladies Market” where you will learn a lot about the epoch of the late 19th and early 20th century. You will pass next to a Synagogue, situated almost in front of an active mosque and Catholic Church, giving the name of the square – “The Square of Tolerance. After you visit the Sofia History Museum you will walk by the Communist administrative center, St. Sofia church, Sofia University, and Alexander Nevski Cathedral, where your tour ends. You can ask your guide some final questions and if you need they can give you a ride back to your hotel if it is far from the center.

Your guide will pick you up in the morning from your hotel or address in Sofia for a wonderful journey to Aleko Mountain Resort, situated within an hour drive from the city center at 1,840 meters a.s.l. The guide will help you with snowshoe binding adjustments and give you a short briefing regarding the simple techniques of walking with them before heading towards the highest peak of Vitosha Mountain (Cherni Vruh, 2290 m a.s.l.). The walk in the winter wonderland begins with a gentle ascent, and soon you will get above the tree line admiring great panoramic views. You will reach the top of the mountain in about 2-hours, where you will have a break for a warm herbal tea provided by the guide, before heading back towards Aleko Resort, enjoying the wonderful views of the Bulgarian capital. At the end of the walk, you will have a transfer to the city, where your guide will leave you at your place.  

See part of the main sites of Sofia, like, the National Theater with garden, Antique Serdika, Banya Bashi Mosque, Sveta Nedelya Church, Palace of Justice, Sophia Statue, Rotunda St. George, Graf Ignatiev street Vitosha pedestrian street. The last stop of the tour will be a traditional restaurant where you will taste glass of Bulgarian wine together with different local meat bites – lukanka, katak, kopoolu, fillet Elena and others. The tour departs early in the morning and heads to the tranquil hearth of Rila Mountains where you can admire the impressive Rila Monastery (UNESCO). Its architecture and frescoes present the apogee of Bulgarian Renaissance art. During the guided tour in the inner yard and the monastery museum, you will discover the most treasured monuments and learn the most fascinating facts and stories about the biggest Bulgarian monastery complex. The first stop will be at the Rilla monastery and the museum, so you can fully explore the history and see what it was in the past. After the museum you will have the chance to explore more about the complex and then visit the surrounding mountain around the monastery.  There will be sufficient time to stop and have lunch by the side of the river in one of the greatest restaurants on the side of the road back to Sofia. There you will have the chance to taste some great Bulgarian cuisine.You will also have free time to buy souvenirs, take some photos and then continue on to the tour. After visiting Rila mountains, you will go back to Sofia and on the way stop at Boyana church. Part of the UNESCO heritage area, it's located deep in the Vitosha mountain near Sofia. Located on the outskirts of Sofia, Boyana Church consists of three buildings. The eastern church was built in the 10th century, then enlarged at the beginning of the 13th century by Sebastocrator Kaloyan, who ordered a second two storey building to be erected next to it. The frescoes in this second church, painted in 1259, make it one of the most important collections of medieval paintings. The ensemble is completed by a third church, built at the beginning of the 19th century. This site is one of the most complete and perfectly preserved monuments of east European medieval art.

Very unique experience to see Sofia from the top! You will see places you won't be able to see on your own. During the 2,5 hours trip you will first explore the main attraction in Sofia - the Alexander Nevski cathedral - our meeting point! Right after we'll go with a luxury suv to the heart of Vitosha mountain and we'll bring you to the amazing Golden Bridges - a unique rock formation so called the stone river of Vitosha! Our next stop will be the breathtaking, 186-metre tall TV tower - Kopitoto "The Hoof", situated on top of Vitosha mountain at 1,348 m altitude. You will have unique opportunity to walk around the cliff and take stunning pictures of Sofia from the top! The next destination will be the best skybar in Sofia - Ozone - situated on the 29th floor with a spectacular 360 panoramic view of the city! You will have the pleasure to enjoy a cocktail/drink (not included) overseeing the city from the top. At the end we'll bring you back to the starting point.

Begin your tour at 10:00 AM, meeting your guide at your hotel. First, head to Pancharevo Lake which is about 30- 40-minute drive away from the center of Sofia (depending on the season, it is possible to go first to the mountain). Around the lake, walk and enjoy the beautiful nature, away from the noise of the big city. There are also hiking trails, several park areas with coffee shops, and restaurants available here.  In the afternoon, head to Vitosha which is the first park in Bulgaria and on the Balkan Peninsula. Here, there are many paths from which you can choose to hike and each hike can be adjusted to your preferences (some paths are relatively easily accessible) and usually take between 1 and 2 hours. The main path goes to the natural phenomena "stone river". From this area, you will also have the chance to see the beautiful panoramic views of Sofia. In the winter, it is also possible to go up in the mountain if you want to enjoy the snow, but of course the walking will be much more limited because of the winter conditions.

The tour starts at 9 am when you will be picked up by a private guide from your staying in Sofia. By car, you will head to the outskirts of Sofia. Your first stop will be the Pancharevo Lake, with its calm and relaxing atmosphere, where you will be able to take some beautiful photos. After that, you will continue to the Boyana neighborhood, which is situated in the footsteps of the Vitosha Mountain. There you will visit the National History Museum-the biggest museum in Bulgaria and one of the biggest in the Balkans. It has rich collections from antiquity to nowadays. The guided tour in the museum is between 1 hour and 1 hour and 30 minutes. The next stop will be the remarkable Boyana Church, recognized by UNESCO because of its amazingly well-preserved frescoes from the 13th century. The visit of the church is about 30 minutes. Then, you will continue to the “Kopitoto” view point, from where you will be able to see the magnificent panoramic views of the town. After that you will have a stop at a restaurant for a lunch break. Finally, from 3 pm to 5 pm, you will head to the center of Sofia where there will be a 2- hour sightseeing tour. You will go around the most interesting buildings and places and learn their history from your guide- Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Saint Sofia Basilica, Saint George Rotunda, the Parliament, the Presidency, the Roman Remains, and others. The tour will finish at around 5 pm near the beginning of “Vitosha” street- the main walking street in Sofia.

We present to you a slightly different tour from the usual ones in terms of time, the purpose of the event is to see the capital Sofia from a different angle at a different time, at your request you can also have an improvised picnic (dinner) from the high peak of Kachen del, which overlooks Sofia on 180 degrees. Tour starts at 08pm with pickup from the center of Sofia, after 40 minutes of driving we go to the starting point for walking and start an easy hike to Kamen del peak, after about 1 hour we will be at the place for photos, picnic, friendly talk about the surroundings about 30 minutes, we go back to the vehicle, around 00am we are in the center of Sofia.
