Full description
After hotel pick-up and meeting your guide, you will head towards Trakai, a small town with about 5000 residents. Once a significant and powerful town, Trakai nowadays enjoys tranquility. The town is located next to Vilnius, which is 15-miles (about 25-kilometers) surrounded by several beautiful lakes, woods and hilly landscapes. The main attraction is the island castle finished in the early 15th Century by Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas.
The snowshoe hike starts in Varnikai forest and you can explore a true winter wonderland while walking on the natural trails. Pass idyllic village of Varnikai before you will reach the lakes. Walk on ice to the castle (walking on ice – subject to change if the ice is not thick enough) where you will learn some medieval history.
Enjoy hot tea during the tour and traditional Karaim pie at the end to complete your impressions of Trakai before going back to Vilnius.
