The Hill of Crosses - Spiritual Journey

On the way to The Hill of Crosses we have visited MŪŠIA (A. SVARINSKAS) PARK , which was dedicated to the partisans, who were fighting against Soviet Occupation. Monsignor Alfonsas Svarinskas, who initiated the establishment of the park, was sent twice in Siberian camps and he has survived - such an amazing man of God ! The Hill of Crosses itself has very spiritual and mystical atmosphere. Although the weather was windy, it was very quiet in front of Virgin Mary statue. The guide Inga is an excellent story teller !

A brilliant experience

I was lucky enough to have Andres as a guide again (I also did the Trakkai - Paneriai Memorial tour). Andres is an excellent guide who was providing all the time information about history in a very well chronological overview for a better understanding for all of us. We first stopped at the park where we had a lovely walk around the park dedicated to the partisans of the Great Battle District, where you see crosses edicated to the partisans and for famous people such as Pope John Paul II, US president Ronald Reagan. Then we proceeded to the Hill of Crosses (~220kms from Vilnius) where many crosses are brought by people on the hill. The hill of crosses is a totally unique place. There is thousands of crosses. Afterwards we went to an excellent restaurant for traditional Lithuanian food. The food was delicious and cheap. A brilliant experience.
