From Vik: Katla Ice Cave and Super Jeep Tour

Wonderful experience with the Ice Cave Tour. Despite it appears challenging, we were well informed and well prepared before entering the Caves. Our Tour Guide Stefan is very attentive, experienced, humorous and knowledgeable. He went an extra mile when he spotted an Arctic Fox is around, and we able to see it. A must see activity if time permits.

This is a must-do if you're in Iceland. The company was Troll Expeditions, our guide was Stefan, our tour was the "Katla Ice Caves and Super Jeep Tour". We met in Vik and rode went off-road through lava fields in a "super jeep", aka custom Ford van with a huge lift and a really cool built-in tire pressure adjustment system. Stefan was a terrific guide, narrating our ride to the glacier with scientific information and humor. When we disembarked from the van the sight of the Katla Glacier was absolutely breathtaking. If you're from USA and have been to the Grand Canyon, remember how that first view felt! Stefan instructed us in putting on the provided crampons and off we went across the ice and towards the two ice caves that were open for us to experience. Our guide's knowledge, relaxed attitude and sense of humor made the experience enjoyable in spite of rain and 30k winds. Total tour time was 2.5 hrs. Again, most highly recommend!
