The ride to the ice caves was quite bumpy but that made it also kind of fun. Sadly, because of this bumpy ride we had troubles understanding the stories and facts told by our guide. The ice caves were quite beatiful. In case you are scared because of some reviews from 2021 stating just an arc of ice, that was not a problem when we were there. That arc was once before part of a cave, which sadly partially disappeared. But we visited multiple long and beatiful caves instead, which completely satisfied our longing for icecaves. Unfortunatly, during the tour we were in quite a hurry at times and thus did not have an enoumous amount of time to just stand there and soak in the atmosphere. All in all we can recommend this tour to anyone who is okay with bumpy rides and wants to see some big and beatiful ice caves. Btw incase you expect to walk on a huge amount of snow during the glacier hike you are technically correct, but the snow underneath you is burried under ground so you cannot see it.

The tour basically consisted of a jeep ride and a glacier walk. The jeep tour was fun and the guides provided interesting information about the area and the glacier. The glacier walk was also very nice, but in the end you are not really walking on a glacier, but more on a combination of stones and ice and through an ice tunnel. So you don't end up walking on a plain of just ice / snow. Nevertheless it was a beautiful walk and a beautiful tunnel. Also on this walk the guides told a lot and interesting information. It is a pricey tour for what you get, but Iceland is just a very expensive country. It is something that you should really visit with an organized tour, because you absolutely cannot get close to the glacier with a normal car. So in the end we were very happy that we booked the tour after all.

We went at a time when things were really beginning to melt and parts of the cave were unsafe to go in - our tour guide took his time making sure it was safe enough to enter, and he and the other guides really helped us to get through. It was a little scary! It was definitely different (when we went in late Feb) than we had expected, but that was because of all the melting. We had to go in and come out of the cave pretty quickly. It was dark and slippery and felt a little sketchy but we survived. It was an experience for sure!
