Viewpoint of the Cerrado das Freiras

Your tour starts at Ponta Delgada with a safety briefing about the vehicles and how to manage them. You need to present to the guide your drivers license and credit card for the deposit. We have available 2 different itineraries Sete Cidades or Coast to Coast in Ribeira Grande and the full day or half day option. -Sete Cidades: drive around the crater witch was a volcano thar creates itself. Driving around the landscapes are unbreathing, stunning. The crater from one side and the ocean from the other side. You will also have the chance to drive down to the village and be involved directly with the nature. -Coast to Coast in Ribeira Grande: drive near the coast of Ribeira Grande next to the option. Then you will drive into small off-road trails and in the middle of the nature. Feel the adrenaline and feel yourself insie the adventure.

ITINERARY 1: Along the shores of the Lagoa Azul you’ll reach the Sete Cidades Tunnel. We return to the heart of the parish and visit the Church of São Nicolau. Cycle through the traditional rural houses to the bridge that divides the lake in two, Lagoa Verde and Lagoa Azul. Passing along the shore of the Lagoa Verde, we can find the showy cryptomeria trees until we reach the Bay of Silence. Returning along the same route to the bridge, you can enjoy the shores of the Lagoa Azul while getting to know the Peninsula and Cerrado das Freiras. ITINERARY 2: You'll cross the bridge that separates the Lagoa Azul from the Lagoa Verde. After observing the tranquillity of this place, we head back in the direction of Cumeeira Pequena, passing by the Lagoa do Santiago, Cerrado das Freiras and the Regional Road. You'll descend towards the Vista do Rei viewpoint for a panoramic view of the lakes, Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde, and also the abandoned “Monte Palace” hotel. You'll follow a more adventure trail that will take you along Cumeeira Pequena, where we can find several endemic species. We'll at the Lomba do Vasco viewpoint, where it is possible to see the islets of Mosteiros and its parish. We'll end the tour by descending into the heart of the town of Sete Cidades, which will lead us to the Church of São Nicolau. ITINERARY 3: Start the tour by cycling towards Cumeeira Grande, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the coast and the Sete Cidades caldera, where you can pass the Cumeeira viewpoint and the highest point, Pico da Cruz. Then, after passing the Nove Janelas Aqueduct, you'll have the opportunity to visit the Lagoa do Canário and Miradouro da Grota do Inferno. You'll continue along the Regional Road where you'll find a variety of hydrangeas with their different colors, Lagoa do Santiago, and the opportunity to stop at the Cerrado das Freiras viewpoint. To end this tour pedal along the shores of Lagoa Azul. ITINERARY 4: Start the tour with a relaxed warm-up, crossing the bridge that separates the Lagoa Azul from the Lagoa Verde. We head back towards Cumeeira Grande, passing through the parish of Sete Cidades. Along the Cumeeira Grande, you'll be amazed by the view over the sea, lakes, pastures and where you’ll stop at the highest point of the Sete Cidades volcanic complex, with a height of 845m. Back on the road, you'll pass throught the Nove Janelas Aqueduct, with a stop at Lagoa do Canário and the most emblematic viewpoint on the island of São Miguel, Miradouro da Grota do Inferno. You'll descend towards the Vista do Rei viewpoint for a panoramic view of the Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde, and also abandoned “Monte Palace” hotel. We then follow a more adventure trail that will take us along Cumeeira Pequena, arriving at the Lomba do Vasco viewpoint, where we can see the islets of Mosteiros and its parish. We will end the tour by descending into the heart of the town of Sete Cidades, which will lead us to the Church of São Nicolau.

The experience: FULL DAY TOUR SETE CIDADES & FIRE LAKE (West side): - Start by visiting a pineapple plantation followed by the most scenic viewpoint in the Azores, the "Vista do Rei" viewpoint on the edge of the volcanic crater, witness the beauty of the blue and green lake. Descend inside the volcano, stop at the "Cerrado das Freiras" viewpoint and Sete Cidades parish. Here you will have free time to explore the picturesque parish, walk along the edge of the lake or enjoy a typical buffet lunch if you have opted for the "Boock Lunch" option. Next, stop at Escalvado viewpoint overlooking the ocean, Ponta da Ferraria and Mosteiros Islets. Departure to the north coast, stop at Santa Barbara black sand beach. FULL DAY TOUR FURNAS & RIBEIRA DOS CALDEIRÕES (East Side): - Start with a morning stop at one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the north coast of São Miguel, Santa Iria. Enjoy a tea tasting by visiting one of the only two industrial tea factories in Europe. Admire all the beauty of the tea plantation, traveling through valleys and mountains where goats clean the bushes. This is not just any plantation, it is the last one in the world where no pesticides or fertilizers are used, being 100% natural. Head to the "Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeirões" in Nordeste, here, the nature lives! An old water mill park converted into a Natural Park of great beauty with its enormous waterfalls. In Furnas volcano village, explore the place locally called "Mouth of the Volcano" where you will find hot spring, countless sources of mineral waters and stroll among boiling waters. Stop for a gastronomic adventure and try the “Cozido das Furnas”. Stewed in holes set in the volcanic soil for around 7 hours, this is perhaps the most “unique” dish in the Azores. We created this amazing guided tour, with the intention to combining two different places in two different areas, in one day we can visit the most beautiful places in the area of Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo. On this guided tour we use a van with a maximum of space for 8 people, comfortable with plenty of space and with all the necessary conditions for this event. Start with pickup in the morning. Then proceed to visit Pineapple Plantation in the Greenhouses/Viewpoint of the Pico do Carvão/Natural Park of Lagoa das Empadadas/Natural Park of Lagoa do Canário and Grota do Inferno/Viewpoint of the Blue and Green lakes of the Sete Cidades/Viewpoint of the Cerrado das Freiras/Center of the Sete Cidades Parish we end the morning with lunch time. At lunch time, we offer a complete meal in a local restaurant, in order to be able to offer better and typical traditional food fish or meat. (If for example: you are vegetarian, you can always choose something different). We start in the afternoon our guided tour, in which we have several stops, all our stops are easily accessible, in the afternoon we start visiting (Lagoa downtown/pottery factory/Viewpoint of the Pico da Barrosa/Lagoa do Fogo Lake/Natural Park Caldeira Velha- Hot spring waterfall/Liquor Factory/Ribeira Grande downtown). At the end of our guided tour, we finish at 18:00pm, and we drop off all people at the same places where we picked them up.

This activity starts and ends in the village of Sete Cidades, one of the places with the most beautiful natural landscapes on the west side of the island of São Miguel (approximately 30 minutes by car from the city of Ponta Delgada). At the starting point, we conduct a safety briefing and a demonstration of how to use the electric bicycle and all its functions, which takes about 15 minutes, and then distribute the equipment. Once we finish, we are ready to embark on a memorable adventure! To start, we will across over the bridge that divides the Blue and the Green lakes, and enjoy the lakeside view going to the Peninsula and the peaceful picnic area of Baía do Silencio (“Bay of Silence“). Heading back to the bridge along easy dirt tracks, get ready for a long and steep ascent on the main road, along which you can stop at the viewpoints of Lagoa de Santiago (“Santiago Lake“) and Cerrado das Freiras (“Nuns Haven”). We continue onwards and upwards, till finally reaching the Viewpoint of Vista do Rei (“Kings’ View“) for a panoramic view of the Blue and Green Lakes below as well as the now-abandoned “Monte Palace” hotel. Then, a more adventurous trail that takes us along along Cumeeira Pequena (“Small Summit Rim“). Passing the Lomba do Vasco Viewpoint we will finish the tour descending to the heart of the village of Sete Cidades, passing by the Church Matriz de São Nicolau, leading us back to the start point. NOTE: A minimum height of 1.50 cm / 5 feet 11 inches is required to use the electric bicycle.
