Full description

Experience a romantic sightseeing tour by bus and boat from Vienna, introducing you to the beauty of the Wachau and Danube Valleys in Lower Austria. Visit the Benedictine Abbey of Melk with a guide. In winter, enjoy lunch in place of the Danube boat trip.

Explore the River Danube as it flows around picturesque villages and steep vineyards. Pass by many ancient castles testify to the former importance of the river. One of these is the ruins of Dürnstein Castle, where, according to legend, Richard the Lionheart was kept imprisoned, and was eventually freed by his faithful minstrel Blondel. Then take a romantic boat trip along the legendary Danube (only in summer, in winter we offer you a lunch). In the old city of Krems, go to the heart of the Wachau wine-growing region, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architectural and agricultural history.

Then, follow your guide to the Danube River town of Melk. Visit the Benedictine Abbey of Melk, one of Austria's most famous Baroque buildings and its cultural and spiritual center.

We experienced perfect timings throughout the day. The transfer from the coach to the riverboat was seamless, The Guide was also very helpful. We loved the beautiful scenery along the river. The views across the countryside from The Abbey at Melk and the abbey itself were well worth the trip, as was the lovely little village of Durnstein. Would absolutely recommend this trip.

The meeting point was confusing because it was opposite a landmark, where there was another group of tourists waiting to enter the State Opera. The only thing that identified the tour operator was the words printed on the back of the jacket of the representative. You could only see the words when you were right behind the person. A more conspicuous sign or flag would have helped. The tour itself was fine, but slightly tarnished by the fact that the guide did not provide her contact details, so once we were off to free time activities and the tour in Stift Melk which she did not accompany, there was no way to get hold of her to clarify the next meeting point or time (I thought she would reappear after the guided tour at Melk Abbey, that's why I had not asked her before the guided tour). The service center of the tour organiser is also only available until 3pm, not covering the entire time of the tour.

We found the the trip on the internet. We got all the information by mail. When we arrived to the opera house there where steam who escort as to the bus. The group was mixed and the guide was very clear. He spoke good English and Spanish.the driver was very professional and the ride was smooth. In the way we hear about the vally, the history and the environment. It was very interesting. We stopped at durstein a small picturesque village with a lovely church and small picturesque allwys on the Danube. We bought some souvenirs, apprikot liqueur (25 euro a big bottle) i think it expensive and in melk the same bottle coast about 16 euro. After a 45 minutes of self visiting durshtein, we continue our trip by bus to split, the guide spoke about the history from the time of the romans. From splits we saile in a boat to melk. The Crouse was magnificent, all organized by the book... The view was breathtaking. In melk, we meet the bus who took us up to the melk abby. Near the abby we ate lunch
