Visit two cultural assets from the Habsburg Monarchy: Spanish Riding School and the Imperial Treasury. Observe the world-famous Lipizzaner horses in training, and admire treasures of great historical and religious significance. Visit the Spanish Riding School of Vienna and observe the horses during their training. In the magnificent setting of the baroque Winter Riding School, the training offers an insight into the years of training of the Lipizzaners and their riders. The training of the horses is accompanied by classical Viennese music. The training includes relaxation exercises, refining and perfecting movement, and strengthening certain muscles. The famous school jumps such as levade, courbette, and capriole are not practiced every day. In the Swiss Court, the oldest part of the Hofburg Palace, you’ll find the fascinating treasures of the Habsburgs. Marvel at the valuable jewels and the treasure of the Order of the Golden Fleece. See the Burgundian Treasure from the 15th century as well as the cradle of Napoleon's son. Other highlights include the charming jewelry pieces of the Habsburg empresses and princesses, and original items of jewelry belonging to the Empress Elisabeth. I enjoyed visiting the Spanish Riding School a great deal, and the Imperial Treasury was opulent as expected. One thing I didn't notice when booking my tickets--the default is a standing-room ticket at the Riding School, but you can also book a seat. If I had noticed this, I would have definitely booked a seat.

The ticket retrieval was confusing. You have to go into the Imperial Treasury and collect the tickets for both. The Lipizzaner entrance has a queue on the right with tickets and a queue on the left to buy tickets. The horses were lovely, I am not a horse person really but it was a really nice experience watching the riders and horses train. People leave a free an hour then the seats become available so be patient! The Imperial Treasury was nice but has to have the audio tour to get the most out of it. Some astonishing artifacts on show and some stunning cloaked and other garments. Under 19s are free in the Imperial Treasury so watch that if you are booking the two together.

Both were very entertaining albeit the morning Spanish Riding School training session was a little disappointing in that there was no group sessions rather a prosession of 4 or 5 horses and riders at any one time essentially going round and round up and down. At times got a bit boring. Other than that it was good value entertainment for 2 hours. The Treasury was excellent. Many very old and interesting things to see.
