Full description
The Belvedere in Vienna is one of the leading museums worldwide. Its famous art collection includes works ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day. The unique complex, with its two palaces of the Upper and Lower Belvedere and extensive gardens, is one of the most stunning Baroque architectural marvels in the world. Highlights include the world's largest collection of Gustav Klimt paintings as well as prominent works from the periods of Viennese Biedermeier, Austrian Baroque, Vienna around 1900, and French Impressionism. Now, for the first time in decades, the museum will once again host large-scale special exhibitions that you can admire on your visit. In the 18th century, the Austrian general Prince Eugene of Savoy commissioned the renowned Baroque architect Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt to build the complex. After the death of Prince Eugene, Empress Maria Theresa acquired the entire complex and transformed the Upper Belvedere into an exhibition venue for the imperial collections – making it one of the first public museums in the world. The Lower Belvedere, formerly the residence of Prince Eugene, is home to illustrious exhibitions. The Baroque gardens of the Belvedere rank among the most beautiful in the world. The main garden is situated between the Lower and the Upper Belvedere and extends over three large terraces. The Belvedere park is also home to the Botanical Garden and the oldest Alpine garden in Europe.

you can walk through the grounds for free, not sure I would pay £12pp again to walk around the upper belvedere, it's quite small and very busy. An audio guide would have helped as almost all signs are in German, but with so many people and not much space it's hard to read them. Around The Kiss was manic, ruined seeing it really. We got bikes over there as it's a little way out of the city. great views of the city on the top floor.

We wanted to see the Klimt exhibition which is in Upper Belvedere but I didn't realize that I booked tickets only for Belvedere 21. The ticket name has the designation Upper, Lower or Belvedere 21 and it caused this confusion, we had to buy another ticket at the entrance of Palace.

We got in but had trouble at the upper Belvedere as the ticket only said Belvedere21. We were only there first, but Siegmund didn't want to let us in at first in the upper Belvedere. We only got admission when I showed that it was a combined ticket. The lower Belvedere was the same. Scanning the QR code didn't work. Otherwise it was nice, worth a visit.
