The Künstlerhaus was originally presented to the city’s artists in 1865 as a gift by Emperor Franz Joseph. As of now, it hosts the Albertina Modern, a second new location of the famous Albertina Museum. This second location of the famous Albertina Museum, opened on May 27 2020, numbers among the largest museums of modern and contemporary art.
Discover the collection of more than 60,000 works by 5,000 artists which are displayed during differently themed exhibitions. On over 2,000 m², Albertina Modern presents wide-ranging exhibitions of modern and contemporary art that start from the museum’s own holdings—most prominently among them masterpieces from the Essl Collection, which has been held by the Albertina Museum since 2017.
