Performance Of The Lipizzans At Spanish Riding School

1. Performance Of The Lipizzans At Spanish Riding School

Enjoy the Ballet of the White Stallions at the unique, baroque Winter Riding School at Hofburg Palace, built under Charles VI. These performances are the result of years of training for the rider and their Lipizzans. The Spanish riding school is the only institution in the world which has practiced classical equitation in the Renaissance tradition of the Haute Ecole for more than 450 years. From the young, boisterous stallions to the fully trained School Stallions, they enchant the audience with their performance of breathtaking excercises such as caprioles, Levade and many more. The physique and grace of Lipizzans are ideally suited to the High School of Classical Horsemanship. They are Europe's oldest horse breed. The exercise and preservation of the High School of Classical Horsemanship are some of the core tasks carried out by the Spanish Riding School which is inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. A particularly atmospheric lighting concept was developed by renowned multimedia artist André Heller for the performances in the most beautiful riding arena in the world. This atmosphere and the accompanying classical Viennese music make the wonderful presentation by the rider and their Lipizzans even more enjoyable. The 1.5-hour Gala Performance includes live moderation, the Standard Performance is 70 minutes long, and the Tribute to Vienna performance lasts for 2 hours.

This is a great way to see the most famous Austrian Wine region! We met at the office in Vienna and then took a 1 hour train to Krems where we picked up our bikes. Then ride to the 1st winery, then ride to lunch in Durnstein (for an extra 13 euros) with some free time, then ride to the 2nd winery, then ride all the way back to Krems for the train back to Vienna. I would say it is a moderate level of biking. This is probably a normal bike ride for Europeans, but as an American who hasn't ridden a bike in years, I was sore the next day! Would highly recommend to anyone interested in white wines and experiencing the local scenery, just make sure you are physically up to the task.

My wife has back issues that can kick in during an activity. They did and the staff at the School provided Immediate help. The guide was excellent. Knowledgeable and had excellent English. Best we experienced while on our three week trip to Germany, Czech Republic, and Austria. Recommend the back stage tour.

First tip: go to the cash desk at Michaelerplatz 1 an hour earlier to exchange the voucher. Then go out with the ticket and go to the entrance at JosefhPlatz 4 (the 2nd door on the right of the porch facing the horse stables). with the various daily programs.

The guide gave all the information needed about the horses. As a horse lover it was very informative to know how these horses are trained and maintained

Spectacular views on the bike and great white wine.
