"The Third Man" Film Location Tour

We visited the locations besides receiving a lot of information about behind the scenes the guide informed us that the next day the movie was going to be exhibited in a local cinema that was great to recognize all the locations that we saw the day before

This tour was brilliant. Even if one were not devotees of the film, as we are, the photographs, the narrative, the visited locations, and Dr Timmermann's enthusiasm and inexhaustive knowledge, all add up to bring it alive. At each location, she peels back the decades since the end of WW2 and reveals Vienna as it was when the film was made, adding flavour and colour with anecdotes, asides and incidentals surrounding the intrigue and spying that was being conducted by the Allied Powers and which was the real life backdrop to the film. So much information about a time that was critical to the shaping of modern Europe was woven into her presentation. It was also an immensely nostalgic journey down memory lane as I was taken back to a time that I remember in Vienna. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested either in the film or the fascinating history of the immediate post war period.

Brigita provided a fascinating insight into the background to the film enhancing the experience of the viewer. She also put into context the political cultural and social machinations in play in post war Vienna. Also great fun!
