From Vienna: Bratislava City Tour with Food Options

Although it was a freezing day with icy winds blowing off the river, Sylvia kept us all entertained with her in depth and often humorous observations on Bratislava’s history. I went on the tour to learn more about Slovakia as it was my first visit. As a single traveller I also enjoyed the lunch with the group.

I liked this trip because the transport from Vienna to Bratislava was by myself by bus. So I had to find my way across town and work it out. Not that difficult in Vienna. Nevertheless, this wasn’t a “wait downstairs in your hotel lobby for someone to collect you” event. The walking tour itself concentrated on Bratislava’s old town, which makes perfect sense. The guide, was a local and had recollections right back to Soviet days. My history knowledge is pretty good generally, but I realized there’s many gaps as far as Central European goes. So I learnt a lot. Bratislava old town is charming and small. We walked around a bit then the guide left (1.5hrs). Coffee and cake was included at a locally owned cafe where the hospitality was warm. The guide was knowledgeable. I probably could have walked further, but the town is small. I took an earlier bus back to Vienna after a hike to the castle and local lunch of dumplings and locally owned cafe beer.
