From Malta: Gozo Day Trip Including Ggantija Temples

During this full-day tour, experience Gozo's magnificent heritage, visit key landmarks, and discover hidden gems, all while relishing the impressive beauty and distinctive charm this tiny island has to offer.  This tour starts with a short 25-minute ferry crossing to Gozo, which immediately sets the pace for Gozo’s unique atmosphere. The first stop is the megalithic temples of Ggantija, included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This impressive archaeological site dates to c. 3600–3200 BC and is believed to be the oldest freestanding monument in the world, predating Stonehenge in England and the Pyramids of Egypt. The etymology of “Ggantija” is derived from the Maltese word for giant (“ggant”) because it was believed the site was built by a race of giants.  This mythological idea makes sense considering that the temples are constructed from megaliths (massive limestone blocks) measuring more than 5 meters in length and weighing over 50 tonnes. Afterward, head towards the mediaeval fortified city known locally as “Cittadella” (The Citadel).  Located within the capital city of Gozo (Victoria), with its distinctive skyline and imposing military architecture, this ancient, fortified city stands out as Gozo’s major landmark, a beacon visible from all over the island. Next visit is the delightful sea inlet known as Xlendi Bay, located at the end of a deep, lush ravine, which was once a riverbed and surrounded by picturesque steep cliffs. The bay is now on the must-visit list of most daytrippers to the island.  Xlendi’s small but lively promenade is busy at all times of the day, with a variety of cafes, restaurants, and a handful of souvenir shops. Though seemingly bursting with activity during summer, Xlendi Bay remains a refreshingly quiet place even at the height of the season. Your final stop is Dwejra. Situated on the western shore of the island of Gozo, this area is a geological and ecological haven. Its surroundings offer a blend of geology, landscape, fauna, habitats, shorelines, seascapes, archaeology, flora, and history, making this an experience to remember. Dwejra Bay is also known for its Inland Sea, a small bay surrounded by high cliffs and connected by an impressive 65-meter-long natural tunnel that opens out into the open sea, a truly fascinating natural formation that evokes awe and leaves a striking impression. After a day full of experiences and unique memories, take a short ferry crossing back to Malta and return to your hotel.

Gozo: City Sightseeing Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour

This city sightseeing bus tour will help you to discover Gozo – one of the most untouched islands in the Mediterranean. Explore its picturesque and tranquil towns and villages, where life has barely changed for hundreds of years and many traditions are still upheld. This new open-top bus tour of Gozo starts from the picture postcard Mgarr Harbor. The route takes about 2.5 hours with 14 stops, visiting all the major attractions that this beautiful island has to offer. On one side of Mgarr Harbor is Fort Chambray, built by the Knights of St. John in 1749, which majestically and defiantly guards the harbor from its vantage point, while the church dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes is a prominent landmark overlooking the harbor. Enjoy 360 degree panoramic views from the top deck of an open top bus. Hop off at the capital of Victoria, with its famous Citadel which has been at the heart of the island’s activities since Neolithic times and has been aptly called the crown of Gozo. Here you can dine, watch a performance in one of the theaters, or take the opportunity to buy souvenirs. Take timeout at the Bishop’s Chancery, Il-Mall, or Rundle Gardens, an oasis of peace in the center of the busy town that houses a variety of local and imported trees. After a day full of experiences and unique memories, take a short ferry crossing back to Malta and return to your hotel.

Gozo: City Sightseeing Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour

Gozo: City Sightseeing Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour

This city sightseeing bus tour will help you to discover Gozo – one of the most untouched islands in the Mediterranean. Explore its picturesque and tranquil towns and villages, where life has barely changed for hundreds of years and many traditions are still upheld. This new open-top bus tour of Gozo starts from the picture postcard Mgarr Harbor. The route takes about 2.5 hours with 14 stops, visiting all the major attractions that this beautiful island has to offer. Hop on and off at your leisure at conveniently located stops along the route. Lying precisely in the center of the island, Victoria is the island’s most populated area. Tide the bus to Republic Street, the main street flanked by shops, banks, and restaurants. The sightseeing bus tour of Gozo visits the fascinating and ancient Ggantuja Temples and Fungus Rock. For such a small island Gozo also has a high concentration of churches, including the famed Xewkija Rotunda Church, which has a capacity of 3000 – enough to hold the entire population of Xewkija village. I really enjoyed the boat trip! The itinerary was well-planned – we had just enough time to explore Gozo, and then we could relax and swim in the stunning Blue Lagoon. It was also fun that we had the option to jump off the boat! The staff were excellent – friendly and helpful throughout the whole trip. We could take plenty of photos and even rent snorkeling equipment for a small deposit. Overall, a really great experience and definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Malta!

Very punctual, staff were all friendly and helpful. Very crammed boat but trip is only short between places so we didn't notice too much. Definitely get there an hour early if you wish to have a deck chair upstairs. Drinks were delicious and well priced, we didn't have food on board but prices very reasonable.
