Due to health and safety regulations, this itinerary may change. See Know before you go for the latest updates.

Delve deep into Venice’s history with a 3-hour guided tour of St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge's Palace, either as a private tour or shared group experience. Take in two of the city’s most important landmarks while discovering the history of the one-time mercantile capital of the Mediterranean.  Start by exploring St. Mark's Square with your guide before heading into the cathedral. From the first-floor terrace you’ll be able to admire views across the lagoon and see the famous bronze horses up close. Hear how they traveled all the way to Paris and back in Napoleon’s time.  Next, you’ll use the priority entrance to reach Doge's Palace, formerly the residence of the leader of the Republic of Venice. Enjoy visiting the Chamber of the Great Council and courtrooms among other things. Highlights include frescoes by Tintoretto and the Giants’ Staircase.  After this, cross the infamous Bridge of Sighs that links to the New Prisons. Learn how the bridge got its name and the purpose for its construction in the 17th century as you take in the amazing views of the canals. At the end of your tour, feel free to stay and explore the Doge’s Palace with tips from your guide.

Saint Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace are probably the most important (at least the most famous) landmarks in Venice, and for a good reason. Not only they are incredible places, they're also a condensation of what the city is and has been almost since its foundation. But to learn all that these places have to tell for 3 hours without being bored to death with names and dates, you need skill and talent, and that's what's been provided during our tour. To be able to "jump" some of the queues was a plus.

This tour was very informational and engaging. Our wonderful guide, Federica, paraded us through St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace keeping the group's attention and answering all of our questions with ease. She also allowed for a couple breaks to sit and/or grab a snack, which was nice because a 3 hour tour can begin to feel quite lengthy. Her timing was also impeccable; she brought us onto the terrace of St. Marks just before the clock struck 3 so we could see the Torre dell'Orologio (clock and bell tower) in action. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and were thankful to have Federica as our guide.

Everything is really included in this tour. We were out with Natascha, who really speaks perfect German and feels like talking all day - which of course was totally informative for us. We had to pick up the Tivkets at the ferry terminal from St. Mark's Square and met Natascha there too. Getting the tickets was totally unproblematic. Then the group went to the entrance of St. Mark's Basilica. Apparently we didn't have a "skip the line" ticket, because we would have to queue, as well as at the Doge's Palace. That went quickly, however, and Natascha told a lot. In the cathedral we were inside, in the museum and on the terrace. In the palace we were in the palace itself and also on the Bridge of Sighs and in prison. All in all a great 3 hours! We initially planned to see a few things for ourselves, but it wasn't necessary because everything was already perfectly explained and shown. Thumbs up!
