Covid-19 Update

Due to health and safety regulations, this itinerary may change. See Know before you go for the latest updates.

Delve deep into Venice’s history with a 3-hour guided tour of St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge's Palace, either as a private tour or shared group experience. Take in two of the city’s most important landmarks while discovering the history of the one-time mercantile capital of the Mediterranean.  Start by exploring St. Mark's Square with your guide before heading into the cathedral. From the first-floor terrace you’ll be able to admire views across the lagoon and see the famous bronze horses up close. Hear how they traveled all the way to Paris and back in Napoleon’s time.  Next, you’ll use the priority entrance to reach Doge's Palace, formerly the residence of the leader of the Republic of Venice. Enjoy visiting the Chamber of the Great Council and courtrooms among other things. Highlights include frescoes by Tintoretto and the Giants’ Staircase.  After this, cross the infamous Bridge of Sighs that links to the New Prisons. Learn how the bridge got its name and the purpose for its construction in the 17th century as you take in the amazing views of the canals. At the end of your tour, feel free to stay and explore the Doge’s Palace with tips from your guide.

This tour was very informational and engaging. Our wonderful guide, Federica, paraded us through St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace keeping the group's attention and answering all of our questions with ease. She also allowed for a couple breaks to sit and/or grab a snack, which was nice because a 3 hour tour can begin to feel quite lengthy. Her timing was also impeccable; she brought us onto the terrace of St. Marks just before the clock struck 3 so we could see the Torre dell'Orologio (clock and bell tower) in action. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and were thankful to have Federica as our guide.

We bought these tickets for convenience to avoid queuing at the ticket office. It was a very interesting visit with a very precise guide in the explanations and very willing to answer questions. The only flaw is the long line to enter the Basilica of San Marco because the ticket does not include the "skip the line".

I was delighted to have been able to do this wonderful tour! A special thanks to our guide (Elena) because she enriched us with a succession of information. The Basilica is fabulous, but the ducal palace and the prisons are just as fabulous! You cannot go to Venice without discovering all these wonders and without a guide who can explain everything to you! Rating: 10 and praise
