Covid-19 Update

Due to health and safety regulations, this itinerary may change. See Know before you go for the latest updates.

Delve deep into Venice’s history with a 3-hour guided tour of St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge's Palace, either as a private tour or shared group experience. Take in two of the city’s most important landmarks while discovering the history of the one-time mercantile capital of the Mediterranean.  Start by exploring St. Mark's Square with your guide before heading into the cathedral. From the first-floor terrace you’ll be able to admire views across the lagoon and see the famous bronze horses up close. Hear how they traveled all the way to Paris and back in Napoleon’s time.

St. Mark's Basilica sometimes closes to visitors without warning. If this happens, visit the Church of San Zaccaria or the Correr Museum instead, depending on availability. Take a tour of the beautifully ornate 15th-century church and its flooded crypt or learn about the art and history of Venice. Next, you’ll use the priority entrance to reach Doge's Palace, formerly the residence of the leader of the Republic of Venice. Enjoy visiting the Chamber of the Great Council and courtrooms among other things. Highlights include frescoes by Tintoretto and the Giants’ Staircase.  After this, cross the infamous Bridge of Sighs that links to the New Prisons. Learn how the bridge got its name and the purpose for its construction in the 17th century as you take in the amazing views of the canals. At the end of your tour, feel free to stay and explore the Doge’s Palace with tips from your guide.

our guide was born in Venice, new her history not only of the sites we visited but anything that was asked of her and her delivery of information was fantastic. We've traveled a lot and taken many tours and this was one of the best ever, she made the difference. She went at a good pace and packed a lot of interesting information in the tour. Wish we could have had a couple more hours.

It's good but the guide that we GIOVANNA was on her trip and too long with too many tiring explanations for us. In addition, we normally had Access to the Terraces of the Basilica and our guide told us that we did not. So we could not access the terraces or the Casanova prison because according to her not provided for in our reservation. Disappointing experience with this guide.

The meeting point was easy to find (by the San Marco waterbus stop). The guide was very informative and went at a good pace. The 3 hours went really quickly. It is much better to skip the long queues, especially when it is busy. However, there are very few places to stop and sit, and you need to take photo opportunities when you can due to the fast pace. So not suitable if you have restricted mobility. There was an issue with one customer's headset which was sorted very quickly with minimal fuss. Organisation was great. The Basilica and the Doges Palace are both well worth seeing. But double check what is included in your tour before you go as the Pal D'Oro, the balcony etc may not be included. Other museums were included in our ticket on the day of the tour, so an early tour time may be useful if you want to go to them.
