Full description
Discover the greatest treasures of 'minor Venice' on this 2-hour combined walking tour and gondola ride. Start things off on a dreamy note, drifting along the Grand Canal and some of Venice’s minor canals on a romantic gondola ride. Once you're back on dry land, visit the famous Fenice Theater, which was completely destroyed in 1996 by a fire. You can see the completely reconstructed theater from the outside before heading to Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo, a Gothic construction in Calle della Vida. The building features a large variety of arcades and a parapet with little columns that follow the line of the staircase. Thanks to its wonderful exterior, the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo is considered one of the architectural jewels of Venice. Hidden inside a small courtyard close to Campo Manin, it reflects the typical Venetian character of the period when it was built, combining elements of the Renaissance with the techniques of the Gothic-Byzantine period. Continue on to the Rialto Bridge, the most famous walkway across the Grand Canal. It was constructed from stone by Antonio da Ponte between 1588 and 1591. The structure is formed by 2 inclined ramps, flanked by shops on each side and covered by a portico.

Elisabetta our private guide was awesome! She took care of the children and was considerate of the dog. Elisabetta is a real Venetian, smart, well-read and very personable. The 30 minute gondola ride was also a highlight. Stefano drove into side canals with little traffic and tells a lot about the history, about the buildings, about the gondolas and about himself. Elisabetta's private osteria tip Antico Dolo was the crowning glory. Great local food "fatto in casa" with decent prices. Dogs and children very welcome. Rather spend a little more money for a private tour and enjoy it as much as we do!

Very informative but a bit disorganised

The gondola ride was fantastic as was the walking tour. The walking tour gave a detailed insight into Venice and the bits you wouldn't ordinarily see. My only criticism is the bit in between the gondola and the tour, it seemed a bit disorganised as the tour guide hadn't been provided with a microphone and radios so we couldn't hear her. She then had to get someone from the tour group to deliver some. But apart from that, excellent tour!

This adventure was well worth the money. Our guide Gina was from Venice and took our tour a little off the beaten track and provided information I would have never discovered had I walked the streets on my own. As a added bonus we had a short trip 15-20 minute Gondola ride. Honestly, that was enough for me because you are in tight confines with about five other people, get in first to get the most comfortable seat.
