Full description
Escape the crowds of Venice and take a day trip to the Dolomites, with stops at Cortina, Misurina Lake, and Auronzo Lake. See fabulous scenery and get plenty of opportunities to take epic photographs. Pass through tunnels with astonishing views of canyons and valleys, which appear as if from nowhere. The scenery in this region is quite simply some of the most breathtaking in Europe. Upon arrival in Cortina, nicknamed the “Pearl of the Dolomites,” you will have approximately 90 minutes free time to stroll around the town, and take in the picturesque views of the mountains. Weather permitting, you will also be able to take the cable car up to Faloria, which overlooks the town of Cortina from its lofty 7,000-foot high mountain perch. Continue your trip towards Lake Misurina, taking the toll road up to outstanding peaks of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. At 7,740 feet (2,360 meters), it will reward you with yet more unforgettable views of the Dolomites. Take time to stroll around and breathe in that fresh mountain air. Alternatively, break for an optional lunch, and admire the mountain peaks and spectacular backdrop of Sorapis, and Marmarole. After lunch, drive to picturesque Lake Auronzo, passing through enchanting mountain villages as you head back towards Venice, and your final drop-off point.

Meet on the left hand side of Piazzale Roma, in front of the Hotel Olympia in the car park area. Arriving by boat: Take the boat lines no. 1 or 2 and get off at Piazzale Roma. Go up the steps leaving the large bridge of Calatrava behind you and on your right you will see the ticket office for boats and buses. In front of you facing the bus park turn left and follow the path passing the land taxis, continue on the path passing some trees and small kiosks until you see the hotel Olympia on the other side of the canal in front of you. Here on your left is the small car parking area. Your driver will wait here with a sign bearing the name of the tour and holding an orange umbrella.

Wow! Do not underestimate the value of this tour. It's a lot of driving but oh so very worth it. A beautiful day spent away from the crowds. Two items for thought: dress appropriately as temperatures are always cooler in the mountains and over the lunch hour, I recommend grabbing an item from the snack bar and then using that time to hike around the lake. You can eat at an Italian restaurant during the remainder of your trip outsidd the dolomites.

This was a fantastic trip to experience the Dolomites and Cortina. What was incredibly bad was that 2 minibuses and guide were set up only in one minibus. In our bus there was a driver with whom it was almost impossible to communicate, this is too bad when we booked a guided tour. The guide who was on the tour received feedback on this, but did not do anything, she suggested that we could sit on her bus, but then we had become 14 in an 8 seater minibus ....

A not to be missed and unforgettable day trip from Venice.

Our guide Simone was sensational. He was friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable and good fun to be with. Also a good driver. Starting at Piazzale Roma in Venice, we were able to locate Simone easily, due to the clear directions we were given. The trip was unhurried and informative, with regular stops. It was an easy and very enjoyable day, exploring a gloriously beautiful part of Northern Italy, that while only two hours from Venice, was an entirely different experience. Highly recommended.
