When you know the right places to go and get away from the tourist traps, Venetian food is a surprising delight. Learn what to eat and where to eat it on this expert-led guided tour and enjoy a relaxing gondola ride across the Grand Canal. Your tour starts with light bites at a local wine bar followed by an exploration of the famous Rialto Fish Market. With a local on hand to give you insider information, learn about one of Venice’s oldest industries, and spot strange species you may not find at home. At the nearby produce market, extend your knowledge to include the seasonality of vegetables and locally produced specialties. From there, it’s time for more food! You’ll sink your teeth into the locally loved sandwiches at a popular bar, then head to another classic family-run spot for more cicchetti and wine. Next, it’s time to hop on a traditional gondola and cross the famous Grand Canal with your guide en route to Cannaregio. Formerly the city’s Jewish Ghetto, today it’s where locals go to eat, drink and socialize. Your tour ends with a mouth-watering full meal featuring local specialties such as pasta with squid ink, tiramisu for dessert, and of course more wine.

Our very knowledgeable and pleasant guide Francesca was informative about the food culture of Venice. It was interesting to discover how this city of islands received its provisions historically and in the current day. The introduction to bacaro and Cicchetti was fun and tasty. We were a fun group of 11 which was just the right size and the lunch of fine pasta and a sardine dish was enjoyed by all. Once again I was impressed by Walks Of Italy and will continue to take their tours in the future.

Excellent food tour!

The tour was fantastic! I learned a lot of information about food in Venice and our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and approachable. The food was excellent and it was really nice going around the food markets of Venice. I will definitely be recommending the tour to friends who visit this beautiful city!

We received very little of what had been promised.

My comments in detail: (A) explanation of trade routes........shaped the diets..... - not given. (B) learn how Venice gets the freshest fish........ - not given (C) stop at a local butcher, bakery and one of the oldest spice stores....... - yes we paused outside a butcher and spice store very, very briefly and no bakery. (D) hear how Venetian ships used to bet he main source of spices....... - not given (E) stop at local bar for fritti - not given, what is a fritti? (F) enjoy a full meal featuring such local specialities as pasta with squid ink - yes we did have a plate of the squid ink pasta which was quite nice but is that a "full meal" ? (G) get the best recommendations for when, where and how to eat in Venice - not given The above is a summary of your scope of the tour which was not included in our tour. This is without any exaggeration most unsatisfactory. Brett
