Velké Popovice

You will hear about the brewery’s rich history and you can listen to the story of the Ringhoffers, the founding family of the Kozel beer. See the historic brewery house, built in 1928 and lager cellars where you will have the opportunity to try an unfiltered batch of Velkopopovický Kozel. In the end, you will also visit the place where bottles and kegs of Kozel are filled, see the beer packaging exhibition and you will meet the brewery’s living mascot, Olda the goat, which is portrait on all Kozel beer bottles and cans.

Your trip begins in the center of Prague, where you will be fitted with your bike before taking a short train ride to Konopiste Castle. The castle was originally founded as a Gothic fortress, inspired by past French fortresses with a symmetrical layout of towers, although it has gradually been converted into a romantic château. You can walk around the courtyard and castle exterior. Learn about the fascinating history of the castle, which was home to the Archduke Frantisek (Franz) Ferdinand d'Este of Austria. A successor to the Austro-Hungarian throne, his assassination in Sarajevo in 1914 sparked World War I. After admiring the castle, you can start your journey and follow the Greenways bike trail. Enjoy a 3-hour bike ride before arriving in Velke Popovice, home to the famous brewery, Kozel. Take some time to relax and savor a delicious lunch at the brewery, with local Czech food and beer. From Velke Popovice, cycle for another 2 hours to reach Pruhonice Castle and the Kunratice forest, before heading back along the Vltava River and into the center of Prague at approximately 6:00 PM.
