Avoid the long ticket lines and then enjoy your visit at your own pace.  Wander through the Greek Cross Gallery to see elaborately-carved sarcophagi that might just contain the earthly remains of some of antiquity's famous kings and queens. Peek at the Cabinet of the Masks, or tour the Sala degli Animali to see a virtual menagerie of fantastic beasts, real and imagined. Walk the Upper Galleries, including the Gallery of Maps, to see how cartographers depicted the world through the ages. See masterpieces by Renaissance masters in the Raphael Rooms, and rest for a while in the Borgia Apartments. Then, it’s time to marvel at Michelangelo’s exquisite Sistine Chapel, the crown jewel of the Vatican, and perhaps even of all the world’s art treasures.

Go directly to the Vatican Museum entrance on Vatican Museums, 00120 Città del Vaticano (Viale Vaticano) and show your ticket (paper and mobile voucher are accepted) to the security guards at the entrance, then scan your ticket at the box office CASSA ONLINE E GRUPPI after the security check. Please do not arrive outside your assigned time slot.

  • Tickets are valid for the date and time slot chosen. Please do not arrive outside your assigned time slot
  • All visitors must pass through airport-style security. During high season the wait at security may be up to 30 minutes
  • Youth tickets are available for those between the ages of 7-18 (inclusive) with a valid ID card
  • St Peter’s Basilica and the Square may be closed in the morning due to Papal Audience
  • The opening hours are subject to change due to special events at the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St Peter's Basilica
  • Children under 7 years old go free of charge with a valid ID
  • Those with a disability and their carer or companion go free of charge with a certificate of disability, which you must present at the Special Permits and/or the Reception desk in the hall of the museum
  • June, July and August are particularly busy as they are high-season months

I purchased our tickets very easily online. I was a bit worried when I later heard that some tickets purchased for attractions online were not being honoured by the Vatican, but we had no problem at all. They just scanned them and let us in. We did have to wait in a separate line until the time on our ticket as we did arrive a bit too early. Would use this company again.
