There were plenty of people at the entrance to help guide those with slip the line passes. Make sure you ask someone in a yellow vest where to go when you show them your pass. We arrived a little early but were admitted easily. 10-15 min in line. We researched before we went otherwise I would recommend the audio guide if available. If you are ever confused on where to go there are plenty of helpers. I would recommend going left once admitted and going up the winding ramp rather than waiting for the escalator. You can head outside once you get to the top and catch a glimpse of St Peter’s. There are also some good educational posters out there prior to going through the museum to the Sistine Chapel. We liked having the freedom to stop and enjoy some beautiful areas with AC vs having to keep up with a guide. Highly recommend.

Wander through the Greek Cross Gallery to see elaborately-carved sarcophagi that might just contain the earthly remains of some of antiquity's famous kings and queens.
Peek at the Cabinet of the Masks, or tour the Sala degli Animali to see a virtual menagerie of fantastic beasts, real and imagined. Walk the Upper Galleries, including the Gallery of Maps, to see how cartographers depicted the world through the ages.
See masterpieces by Renaissance masters in the Raphael Rooms, and rest for a while in the Borgia Apartments. Then, it’s time to marvel at Michelangelo’s exquisite Sistine Chapel, the crown jewel of the Vatican, and perhaps even of all the world’s art treasures.

Go directly to the Vatican Museum entrance on Vatican Museums, 00120 Città del Vaticano (Viale Vaticano) and show your ticket (paper and mobile voucher are accepted) to the security guards at the entrance, then scan your ticket at the box office CASSA ONLINE E GRUPPI after the security check. Please do not arrive outside your assigned time slot.

Know before you go

  • On June 2nd 2025 Sistine Chapel will not be open and visitable - the rest of the Museums are regularly open.
  • Tickets are valid for the date and time slot chosen. Please do not arrive outside your assigned time slot
  • All visitors must pass through airport-style security. During high season the wait at security may in excess of 30 minutes
  • Youth tickets are available for those between the ages of 7-18 (inclusive) with a valid ID card
  • The opening hours are subject to change due to special events at the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St Peter's Basilica
  • Children under 7 years old go free of charge with a valid ID
  • Those with a disability and their carer or companion go free of charge with a certificate of disability, which you must present at the Special Permits and/or the Reception desk in the hall of the museum
  • June, July and August are particularly busy as they are high-season months

Our guide, Giusy, was excellent and very flexible with two young children as part of our little group of 5. It was the best experience it could be considering the huge crowds and the heat, something Giusy has no control over but did everything possible to manage for our benefit.
