Full description
Meet your guide a few meters from the entrance of the Vatican to skip the line into the popular Vatican Museum. Here, you'll learn about the remarkable history, architecture, and politics of the Vatican City. Your guide will lead you through some of the lesser-known spots that tourists tend to miss. You will discover masterpiece paintings, sculptures, and other works of art, which have been collected by popes through the centuries.

The Sistine Chapel is the highlight of this tour—you will be amazed by the work of Michelangelo’s fresco. Your expert historian guide will teach you about the pieces and the stories behind them. Inside the walls of the Chapel, you will see the glory of Michelangelo’s acclaimed masterpiece, The Last Judgment. It's a marvel to behold and the reason why the Sistine Chapel is known as the crown jewel of the Vatican, perhaps even of all the world's art treasures.

Continue your tour through the corridors and skip the line to St. Peter’s Basilica, the world’s largest basilica. In this monument, you can admire the stunning masterpiece of Michelangelo’s Pieta and Bernini. See the church’s incredible altar and impressive dome, the pilasters of Maderno's nave, and exquisite architectural features by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Then, be escorted to a local restaurant to enjoy a traditional lunch.

After lunch, head to the Castle Sant’Angelo, which is a few minutes’ walks from the Vatican City. Walk through Ponte Sant’Angelo, known as the Aelian Bridge or Pons Aelius. Your guide will explain the details of this special bridge built by Emperor Hadrian. As you enter the castle, on the right bank of the Tiber river, skip the line to Hadrian’s cylindrical mausoleum. Your guide will talk about the changes that took place throughout the centuries behind the fortified walls of the first castle to be built in Rome and how popes converted the structure and a fortified a corridor called the Passetto di Borgo.  Follow the steps of the former popes as you walk through the Passetto di Bargo, built to escape death threats. This corridor will lead you back straight to St. Peters Square. Before the tour ends at St Peters square, learn about the architects behind its astonishing construction, including Michelangelo, Bernini, and Borromini.
