Chacaltaya Mountain is 27 km from downtown La Paz, it is a mountain with 5400 m.a.s.l., it was a sky slopes the hightest of world. This tour combines walking, cable cars and public transportation to give the best local experience while you visit us! During the tour you will visit the San Francisco church, the witches' market in the city of La Paz, the local markets all around downtown. Afterwards you will have the most amazing bird's-eye view from our Cable cars which will take you to the city of El Alto, here you will not only have the best views and perfect picture spots but you will also be able to check out the witches' market of El Alto which is a bit different than the one in La Paz because you will get so see some of the local witch doctors actually performing rituals. Hotel pick up at 8:30 a.m. approximately to go straight to Chacaltaya, this is a mountain with an elevation of 5,300 m.o.s.l. Over 80% of Chacaltaya's glacier melted between 1987 and 2007. The glacier was one of the highest glaciers in South America. When arriving to the refuge, have the chance to walk up to the top of the mountain. Also people will appreciate the wonderful view of Huayna Potosi and Illimani Mountains, Lake Titicaca and some parts of El Alto city. Walking up and watching all landscapes last for about one hour and half, after that, go down, and get on the car again to leave for the Moon Valley. Arrival at 1:30 p.m. to Moon Valley. This valley has a particular rock formation which is similar to the moon`s surface. When in there, see different kinds of trees and plants (local of the area), between them is the cactus San Pedro.
