Uros Floating Islands

Explore one of the marvels of Puno with a tour of the Uros and Taquile Islands in Lake Titicaca, explore the floating islands in the lake, and learn more about the lives of the people who live on the islands in the highest lake in the world. Begin the tour with pickup from your hotel in Puno or the Puno bus station, and make your way to the pier or main port. Start the departure at 07:30 am and travel towards the floating islands of the Uros, currently considered the National Reserve of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. Learn about the people of the Uros, who still maintain their own culture and tradition, as well as artisanal fishing, especially carachi and silverside. Spot some of the 75 islands that are inhabited at present. Sail by boat for 2 hours and a half, to the natural island of Taquile, during the navigation you will be able to observe the chain of mountains. Find out more about the people of Taquile and their famous textiles. Enjoy approximately 2 hours for the visit, a 1-hour delicious typical lunch in front of the lake, before returning to the bus station or your accommodation.

Day 1: Puno – Uros Island – Amantaní After pickup and a transfer to the main port, take a boat ride to Uros Island. Fishermen and hunters inhabit this floating island built of totora, an aquatic plant that grows on the surface of the lake. Learn how the totora is woven and laid and layered to build the surface of each island. As an optional activity, it is possible to make a journey in a boat called "balsa de totora", a traditional form of aquatic transport also made from the reeds.  Then, continue to Amantani Island. Upon arrival, a local family will take you to their home. A traditional lunch will be prepared by the locals with products from the area. Next, visit the famous pre-Inca Pachatata temple. At dusk, hike to the top of the island at 4130m, from where you will be able to observe the sunset over Lake Titicaca. Dinner and overnight at the local family's house on Amantani Island. Day 2: Amantaní – Taquile – Puno After breakfast, head to Taquile Island, famous for its handicraft production and beautiful textiles. Locals even wear a special hat to signify if they are single, married, or in a position of authority. Explore local temples, tombs and terraces from the pre-Inca era, as well as learning about traditional farming techniques and the island's ancient customs. Lunch is not included here, Then return to Puno and be transferred back to your hotel.

Go for a medium-level hike on the island, known for its handwoven art and collective farms, and enjoy a lunch of local produce served in a local restaurant. Then, return to Puno city on the shore of the lake for the end of the tour services. The arrival to Puno will be by 4:00 PM.

Begin with pickup from your accommodation in the historical center of Cusco at 9:00 PM. Rest for the night on a sleeper bus with 160 degree reclining seats. Arrive in Puno in the early morning, enjoy a tasty breakfast, and have the chance to take a shower before heading to the port. Hop on board a speedboat for the short transfer to Uros Island. Take in views of rugged mountain ranges and high plateaus, providing a dramatic backdrop to the shimmering waters of the lake. Be greeted by a local family on Uros Island and hear about their traditions, customs, and lifestyle. Catch a speedboat to the island of Taquile and admire its rolling hills and terraced fields, with steep cliffs plunging down to the shores of Lake Titicaca. Board the sleeper bus at 9:00 PM and travel overnight on the sleeper bus and arrive back at your hotel in Cusco in the early morning (5:30 AM).

Day 1: Islas los Uros y Amantani We will start the tour with the pick up at your hotel at 7:30 a.m. Immediately we will go to the port where the boats leave for the famous floating islands of the Uros. Already in the floating islands our guide will explain the interesting history of the islands and the local culture. We will continue the trip for approximately three hours towards the island of Amantaní. Here a member of a local family is waiting for us to take us to their house for lunch. In the afternoon you can go for a walk to the top of the island to observe the beautiful sunset of Lake Titicaca. Day 2: Taquile The day begins with a traditional breakfast prepared by the family and then we will say goodbye and continue with the trip to the island of Taquile (1 hour by boat), on the way we will be able to see beautiful landscapes that surround Lake Titicaca. We will continue the trip walking towards the top of the island where we will have the opportunity to visit the artisan markets of the town and see the different chullos made by the men of the island. Before leaving the island we will have lunch one of the typical dishes with a spectacular view of the lake. After descending the 538 stone steps we will take our boat back to the city of Puno.
