Lake Mälaren is the 3rd largest lake in Sweden (8th in Europe) and with its more than 8000 islands, 120 km in length and a very complex coastline is a true inner archipelago itself. Mälaren valley is the birth place of Swedish culture, full of historic events and sites from vikings to the modern days. This sunset kayak tour is a great combination of a relaxed paddling in the sunset light, nature experience, few historical remarks and of course a traditional evening fika on the beach! The guide will pick you up at your hotel within central Stockholm. After 30 min. drive you will reach one of the Stockholm's green oasis in the outskirts of the city and start your kayak experience with an introduction in kayaking and safety instructions before it`s time to get on the water! After starting our small group tour (max 10 participants) at the Gamla Stan (Old Town) metro station, we will experience the beautiful view of Lake Mälaren, the third greatest lake in Sweden. We will take pictures of the City Hall, a landmark of Stockholm, and the location for the annual Nobel Prize banquette. We continue, and after passing Riddarholmkyrkan, inaugurated in 1290, we will reach the House of Nobility, which many consider the most beautiful building in Stockholm. We enter the Old Town, experiencing the cobblestone alleys, a rune stoned dated 1050, and the Royal Palace, one of the biggest palaces in Europe, with more than 600 rooms. We will also see the Iron Boy, the smallest statue in Stockholm. Caressing his soft head will give us good luck. After walking through the narrow alleyways of Old Town, we will embark on the ferry that will take us to Djurgården. After a short trip we will reach Djurgården island where the Vasa museum (and several other museums) are located. The guide will introduce you to the museum, the most visited maritime museum in the world! The Vasa ship was brought up in one piece after 333 years under the water. What you see is a 98% intact warship from the seventeenth century, You will get detailed instructions from the guide about returning to the city center from the museum.

Urban was a lovely guide and so knowledgeable about the Vikings, politics, and wider geo-political issues and relationships during the viking age. Super funny and fun tour. I learned a lot and saw some cool sites and viking age ruins. I would definitely recommend it as a nice day trip to get outside of Stockholm and actually learn some cool historical facts. 10/10.
