Danny (my guide) and Abush (driver) were both extremely personable, knowledgeable, and accomodating. They went above and beyond the tour itinerary, increasing the value of my experience tenfold. Since they learned that I like hiking for example, we went on a beautiful hike to the cave where Saint Tekle Haymanot prayed and meditated standing up for 29 years without sitting down! We also went for not one but multiple coffees once Danny learned that I'm a big coffee fan, including to the oldest coffee shop in Addis. We went to a market and ate the most delicious mangoes. Danny also introduced me to a chef who cooked to accomodate my dietary intolerances. They took many excellent photos of me, were always looking out for my wellbeing and were great conversationalists on the drive which made the time pass pleasantly. Please be generous and tip them after the tour. The cost must barely cover the fuel, food/drinks, monastery fees etc and all their hard work on a long day.

It was a wonderful trip through which I experienced natural and local life outside the city. The drive takes about two and a half hours. The areas are beautiful — you’ll see nature and culture. It was just the driver, the guide, and me. They were helpful, kind, always smiling, and ready to assist with anything you need, so don’t worry! My tips are: 1. Wear light clothing — the weather will be warm to mild. 2. For me, the journey, the natural scenery, and the local life were more important than the specific sites. 3. I suggested to the guide that he change the car if possible, as it’s a bit old. 4. Don’t worry about food, breaks, or anything else — you have a great guide with you.

The tour was really cool. Danny and our driver arrived right on time, and we set off for Debre Libanos. On the way there, we made a quick stop to buy breakfast. Then we visited Debre Libanos and the Portugal Bridge. Afterward, we had a delicious meal, a coffee, and the return journey. A very good tour, and Danny speaks really good English and can explain a lot about the local area.
