Cusco: Peruvian Cooking Class with Local Market Tour
Begin your experience at Tunupa Restaurant, right in Cusco’s main square. At 09:45 a.m., our friendly staff will meet you and walk to the vibrant San Pedro Market. As you explore the colorful aisles filled with fresh produce, herbs, and spices, you’ll learn about the ingredients that define Peruvian cuisine—from native potatoes and quinoa to exotic fruits and local peppers. After about 45 minutes, you’ll return to the restaurant and step into our kitchen. The chef will guide you through the preparation of a traditional Peruvian starter. You’ll get hands-on with every step, learning about flavors, techniques, and cultural stories behind the dish. This first part takes around 20 minutes and ends with you tasting your creation while relaxing on our balcony, enjoying panoramic views of the historic Plaza de Armas. Next, it’s time for the main course. For about 30 minutes, you’ll work alongside the chef to prepare one of Peru’s most iconic dishes, using fresh ingredients sourced from the market. Every participant has their own cooking station, and all utensils and ingredients are provided. Once ready, your waiter will serve the main course at your table so you can enjoy it comfortably, accompanied by the beautiful surroundings of the city center. To finish on a sweet note, you’ll join our pastry team for a fun and simple dessert preparation, which takes about 10 minutes. Throughout the class, you’ll feel immersed in local flavors, culture, and hospitality. The entire experience lasts approximately 3 hours, and you will receive the recipe for every dish you have prepared. Whether you're a passionate foodie or just curious about Peruvian culture, this experience will leave you inspired, full, and smiling.
