Full description

The ancient Mayan ruins of Muyil in the middle of the Sian Kaan Jungle Reserve look like something out of an old Indiana Jones movie. Here, you will discover the incredible history of this ancient civilization, as you wander through the ruins.

Muyil was one of the earliest and longest inhabited ancient Maya sites on the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, and artifacts have been found here dating all the way back to 350BCE.

Walk through this inspiring eco-preserve to the highest point in the Sian Kaan reserve, where you'll gaze out at an unblemished jungle filled with hundreds of species of birds, plants, and animal life.

After your hike, enjoy a boat ride through the trading canals of the ancient Maya civilization and visit the Maya temple of Xlapak.

Gaze at the detailed facades of these old ruins, located at the bottom of the river valley. They are so well preserved, that you'll easily be able to pick out the figures (keep an eye out for the Rain god). After visiting this site, float back down through the canals between mangroves and gently make your way back out into the crystal-clear waters around the peninsula. Onboard, enjoy an assortment of Mexican snacks as the sunsets over this beautiful landscape. Experience the very best of this region. The food, the culture, the nature, and a bit of relaxation make this an absolutely perfect day trip from your home base in Playa del Carmen.

We had a great experience! Our guide, Lily, was super informative. Floating down the mangrove was a once in a lifetime experience and if you’re interested in local plants and animals you’ll love walking through jungle path to the lagoons. We were provided refillable water bottles with water for the duration of the tour as well as snacks, and lunch was excellent. If you’re looking for a different experience in Tulum that also supports ethical and sustainable tourism, i highly recommend.

Amazing experience! Santino was a very experienced guide and knew a lot about the Mayan ruins and culture, the nature, and everything else. We had delicious tacos from a local restaurant and crossed the lagoons by boat. We then jumped into the Mayan-made canals and drifted along the open-air lazy river. It was absolutely amazing!
