Top 7 things to do in Tulum
Visit Tulum for its combination of ancient history and natural wonder. Wake up in a resort on an endless stretch of sand, spend the day exploring the best-preserved coastal Mayan ruins, and beat the heat by snorkeling in the region’s underwater cave systems.
1. Mayan Ruins of Tulum
The coastal ruins in Tulum are the last ruins the Mayans built and the best preserved today. Take a break from the beach and visit early before the crowds and high sun arrive.
2. Cenotes Dos Ojos
The cavernous scuba diving at Cenotes Dos Ojos is incomparable. The Mayans called the caves “sacred wells” because of the magical views under the clear Riviera Maya.
3. Cenotes Sac Actun
Located a bit further out from Tulum, it is a natural paradise of underwater caves. Take a guided tour for an inside scoop on this hidden gem.
4. Gran Cenote
Great for families, animal lovers can swim with countless colorful fish and friendly turtles in the mild clear waters of the Gran Cenote.
5. Cenote Esqueleto
Do not be fooled by its small tucked away entrance, this giant scuba diving cave is called the Temple of Doom because swimming in the halocline makes an eerie “fog.”
6. Las Pinturas
Named for the stucco paintings on the wall, this ancient 85-foot pyramid was a sacred Mayan temple.
7. Playa Paraiso
Sip a piña colada with the powdery white sand and electric blue waters of the best beaches in Mexico.
Planning Your Visit
How to get there?
It may be easiest to rent a car after landing at the airport in Cancun, not to mention the benefit of a breezy 90-minute coastal highway drive. If you’re on a budget, take a bus to Playa del Carmen and transfer to a second bus to Tulum for under $20 total.
How many days to spend in Tulum?
Day trips from Cancun are not advisable—there is simply too much to see and do. Give yourself at least three nights to explore.

What people are saying about Tulum
Sorry for the delay. There was a mix up with the pick up location but I was able to speak to someone at Cancun tours that got in touch with the driver and they picked us up. I was worried at first but it turns out that our pick up was in route to our destination and I called just in time...... Roberto, Alphonso and Pedro were with us on this tour. They were all wonderful..... We travel quite a bit and our guides were one of the best we’ve experienced. I loved how Roberto flowed between the translations.... They all were great! We will use your services again and I’ve already referred others and I will do
We got to see a lot of places in one day. Felt a bit rushed but everything was on time and got picked up in our hotel located in Hotelera zona in Cancun. Cenote was beautiful and food was delicious. Chichen Itza and ballcourt looked amazing and tour provided information about Mayans. Valladolid was a quick 30 min stop on our way back. My only complaint is that there were a lot on people on bus tour with few empty seats with this ongoing pandemic. I thought maybe they would reduce amount of ppl. Overall good experience.
This tour was great! I was in Tulum and even though I was staying further out they were able to accommodate me, the guide set up a meeting location and it all worked out perfectly. Also, we did not go to Dos Ojos Cenotes because it was a Saturday and therefore very busy but instead we went to Cenote Mariposa which did not disappoint. Had an amazing experience overall and got to make some new friends on this tour!
Alan, our guide, and Antonio gave our group an amazing day trip. Going to Tulum with Alan’s knowledge of the Mayan history made it much better than just going on our own. The cenotes was the best part of our entire trip to Cancun. So beautiful, I won’t forget it. Highly recommend this trip, they arrange everything and make it a lot of fun.
Paola was such a great guide. Tulum was amazingly beautiful and the history was incredible. To stand among the ancient buildings and learn about the people was an experience you can’t get from a book or TV show. The caves were surreal. To be at the Cenote and then descend into the depths is absolutely thrilling.
